Who: DG & Everyone
Where: Infirmary
When: January 21st, 8 PM.
What: DG is awake.

All she was really aware of was the pain of a throbbing headache. Really bad headache. Worse then the time her and her friends had gone to every single bar in the state to get DG her free birthday drink, really it was. Blue eyes blinked open slowly and met the white ( Read more... )

Someone had gotten Cain immediately. He'd been in the shower and preparing to return to the infirmary, where he had been commandeering the bed beside DG's for the past nights.

He didn't even wonder at her always perfect sense of timing, to wake up without him there. He just pulled on his sleeping pants and ran through the hall, barefoot, hair still wet.

He rounded the doorway and saw DG's eyes open. She was talking to her mother.

The awkwardness didn't even register, really. He smiled for the first time since before the ball.

It was all he could do not to sweep her into a hug and kiss her senseless.

But that was NOT what she needed. Neither was feeling crowded.

"Hey there, princess." He barely kept from crying from the overwhelming sense of relief... and shame.

He gently took her uninjured hand and pressed a kiss to her fingertips.

Her and her mother had been making random chatter when a figure entered the door that she was sure to recognize even if she was blind. "Hey Tin Man." Lavender stood and offered a wink to her daughter, and with a promise to return in a while with her father, left.

"How've you been?" Perhaps not the foremost on his mind but it was on hers, she knew - just by knowing what kind of man he was - that he was kicking himself in the ass for all of this and blaming himself entirely.

"I read you four really lame novels from AZ. Four. I wanted to tear my eyes out. They all ended the same. How do women read them?" He tried to sound non-nonchalant.

"Oh, you know, paperwork, nearly coming to blows with your father, sleeping in that bed there... the usual type things."

How has he been? Like it mattered? "But I'm doing a hell of a lot better seeing your eyes open. We were gonna move you to your room tomorrow."

"I'm not sure, I could hardly get through the ones that I was made to read in school." DG smirked at Cain as he attempted to make it seem like he was fine, which she knew he wasn't, it was easy for her to tell.

"A change in scenery will be nice. So.. why don't you tell me what happened? And don't try to dance around it because if you don't you know that I'll find someone who will." Now perhaps being that direct wasn't exactly how to go about it but she wanted to know what he knew.

He had no idea how he felt that she was blocking it. Or maybe, her head wound came first. No, the damage suggested struggle as well as sadism.

"You were... hurt pretty badly." Chances of prosecution were slim, they had evidence enough for public hanging without a shaky witness statement. He wasn't going to force her. He wasn't a mind Healer. Let them decide what was best for her, to force memory or let it come.

"They tossed you in with Az, but you'd taken a really bad blow to the head, and the damage to your hand was causing a lot of blood loss. Az managed a stasis spell that kept you in a coma, and prevented any further blood loss. She saved your life, darlin'."

"Yeah, I figured the head injury was no walk in the park. Bastard pretty much stapled my hand to the wall, it didn't feel so pretty then either." DG spared a glance to her hand then before nodding her head slowly, "That's what sisters are for. Well not you know, having to listen in while your younger sister gets raped by the same man who she'd previously had no choice but to be bedmates with but, the helping part."

That was a mouthful. "What're they going to do with Zero? I'm assuming he's not completely without harm?" She hoped, because if he was oh she'd hurt him, that was for sure. Or let Cain do it, that could be fun, so long as she got to watch.

Cain actually winced. Okay. She remembered. So much for the avoidance dance.

Actually... I got into a knife fight with him, sliced off two of his fingers, and went for total castration. Not sure how well that went as Ahamo pulled the orb thing after I nailed Zero to the wall by his balls, but he isn't without being in a world of hurt, himself."

Maybe it would make her feel a bit better. Vengeance made her current female guards feel better. But they'd dealt it personally.

"Dg... I... I don't know what to do. I want to hold you and make it all go away, but nothing works like that. I failed you by not taking magic into consideration for security. With the Witch gone no one imagined Zero would get a hold of a powerful mage of any kind, let alone willing to help him. You're parents hate me. I'm not to fond of myself, All I know for certain right now is that I love you, and I'll do anything for you."

Including leave if she blamed him as well. It would kill him. But he'd do it.

"Good. He deserves more, but.." With a shrug she nodded absently, wondering what her mothers reasoning for putting him into the globe was, but she could ask later. "You'll give him what he's due soon enough, keep that in mind."

She stopped talking as he began to go off and for a moment she was tempted to slap him. She really was. "Stop it. Like you said nobody could have known he'd find someone with magical abilities, and you did what you could given the seconds you had to react. Yeah, seconds. Not minutes, or even hours. Seconds. I don't blame you for anything. You shouldn't either."

With her good hand she ran it down his face before resting on his neck, "I love you too. That's all that's important, hear me?"

"I know you're strong. Give me a couple of days to wrap you up in cotton, at least a little, okay? Then, if all goes well, we'll return to having your usual guards shoot anyone who even looks at you too long, like they were supposed to before ( ... )

"Couple days," She warned, while pointing a finger at him with a small smile.

"I'm really not like other women. I've known a couple people who've gotten raped and they took it way beyond what it needed to be, in my mind. I blame one man for what happened and that one man only. I'm not going to let that morning rule the rest of my life for me."

Then she shrugged as she glanced to her hand curiously. "It feels a lot better then it did. I'm sure Raw had a massive headache once he was done. Have you talked to him?"

w_cain May 27 2008, 19:02:06 UTC
"I gave Raw a headache. Both from the talking and other things. Yeah, talked to Raw." Cain confessed. "He did an amazing job on your hand. You're going to have to work with it to get it back up to full mobility. But you'll be back juggling eggs in no time."

As for the other question he hadn't yet answered. "You're parents have the crystal globe."

They evidently didn't want Zero dead out of hand, or Cain would gladly have done it on the spot.

"How bad is your head, darlin'? They have some potions for all levels of pain, and experience tells me it isn't gonna be feeling great."

He'd had his head bashed more than a few times. And if he said that aloud she'd take off with it, and the jokes may never end.

It was hard not to give Raw a headache. He was a viewer, he could sense things that even you yourself may not know, and that of itself was a big task. Then you add on that everyone needed him for things, because he was so talented and he was always busy. Poor thing.

He needed flowers, or something of the sort.

"I figured.." She'd have to talk to her mother about getting her hands on that globe and play a little bit of, shake-the-zero.

"It's .. bad, hurts a lot. Worse then a hangover, that's for sure."

Lavender had been held up on their way back by some minor matter, and had waved Ahamo to go on ahead. She would meet him there as soon as she could. The trip down several floors to the Infirmary took only a few minutes, but that was too long for his tastes. His guards flanked him, looking far more intimidating than they usually did, but his mind was on other things at the moment ( ... )

Cain had left almost a minute or two ago and then she had another visitor, but she wasn't going to complain because it was one person who she didn't get to see too often. "Hi Dad," DG replied with a smile before shrugging her shoulders. "I'm okay, my head hurts really bad but I'm okay."

Then she shifted in the bed again and glanced around the infirmary, "What about you? Cain refuses to really talk about how he was doing with the whole apparent coma, issue.."

Yeah nice way to start off the conversation since you just learned that your boyfriend held a gun to your father.

"Do you need some pain meds?" Ahamo asked, concerned. "Or well, potions as they call them here?" He leant forward, "Possibly stories where I ended up with a concussion of my own? Those might help." It was partially an attempt to make her smile, partially a genuine offer.

He just wanted to see her happy and safe, as he imagined Cain did. "As well as can be expected I suppose, exponentially better now." Giving a light shrug of his shoulders, he tilted his head slightly to the side. "From what I saw he was deeply worried about you. Did he...say anything about what happened in the time you were unconscious?"

She was bound to found out the first part of Cain's interaction with Ahamo eventually.

Cain returned practically dragging a young man in novice Healer's robes and a tray of elixirs behind him.

The harried looking young man looked somewhat afraid of the man currently holding his arm in a death grip.

"Perhaps a dose of laudanum is in order." The brunette muttered.

"Whatever works to take care of her pain." Cain nodded.

"I wasn't talking about her Highness." The young man sat down his tray.

Hey! So he was a little anxious and maybe a bit insistent. No need to get snippy.

"Now, M'Lady, on a scale of one to ten, one being a bruise, ten being childbirth or a broken thigh bone, what would you rate your extent of pain." The man looked over the tray of vials and powders. He'd only brought what was safe to use with head injuries.

"Newt? Every family had one. My older brother told me it was poison so he'd because he was the one who didn't get in trouble." Cain grinned for a moment, then the expression almost snapped off, as if he'd realized he'd said too much.

Cain met Ahamo's eyes. He still wasn't happy, but wasn't about to discuss it or in any way speak with any disrespect towards DG's mother in front of her.

He respected the woman as Queen, but their ideas of parenting was not miles, but evidently worlds apart.

"We all dealt with it as best we could, Deej. After all, the only way in hell I'da read those books was because the Healers said you might be able to hear my voice."

Ah she knew what that meant. Her mom had retreated into her room and locked away the world to deal with it, making mindless prayers and promises to whatever deity that would listen. It's how DG was when things went really wrong, on the otherside at least. In any case, her mother had been there when she woke up so that meant that she'd been to see her at least once in the four days, and that was good enough for DG. It had to be hard.

"I can remember some stuff, I think Scraps was here. I've got this event of mindless talking that goes in circles and crying." Then again maybe it was just a dream, but who knew. Perhaps Scraps really did like her.

"How are all of the guards? Jason?" Jason was her buddy, he was amusing at times and she didn't want to hear that he'd died somehow or anything like that, because it would just break her heart. After all he was there to protect her.

"We lost ten guards in the initial attack." It wasn't like she wasn't going to find out. "Jason is fine. Got shot in the knee. But Raw got to him and he's able to walk just fine. He was annoyed he was too noticeable to go on the retrieval mission. It took a direct order and pointing out how he'd endanger the rescue just by standing head and shoulders above everyone else."

Cain spoke softly while the medication had a chance to kick in. "Johnson took a nasty shot in the shoulder and scared Dave half into the underworld, but he's fine now. Johnson. Dave I'm not certain ever was fine."

"Oh, and Scraps was here. At least twice. I have no idea what she talked about. Likely wouldn't if I was here, either. But she was trying to be supportive and helpful. Az was here as well. She's a lot like you with the guilt department."

He didn't have the problem at all. Not him.

"But she's the one who saved your life, and your hand. Under those circumstances, she was brave, and did what she could."

Ahamo was content with the idea of not discussing what had happened between him and Cain before, especially not now in front of DG. He would take him to the side later to explain that it was between the two of them, allowances could be made for the mental state he had been in, but it was a line the younger man better not attempt to cross again with the Prince Consort.

It was more generous than he felt like being.

"Especially with what happened to his son," he tilted his head in Cain's direction. "Although her guards have been keeping a very close eye on every move he makes around her." Ahamo saw no problem with that, in fact, he would have been perfectly happy keeping the pair apart for the time being. If her guard Sergei had not informed him that the boy was helping her, getting her out of her room, making her smile.
