They say what doesn't kill us makes us who we are...

Why is Personal Image such an important thing?
Why is a persons Self Image so different than the actuality more often than not?

It's this Self image that causes people to wear masks or take up fake personalities to play pretend
Maybe those crazy people mumbling on the streets are just people who hate their self image so much they just got lost in some ( Read more... )

at some point we wake up and we can accept who we are, at least that is what I think. At that point you are comfortable with what you have and what you don't ( ... )

The only reason people want to be what they aren't is 'cause they think it's cooler or better than who they are right this moment. This isn't actually a bad thing: it leads to growth and self-introspection. It leads to self-improvement and self-betterment.

But you have to love yourself and be comfortable with yourself before you can ever be completely comfortable with other people.

...Aaaand giving up your marriage and wife for a woman who is over 60 years old and is going to die soon anyway is RIDICULOUS. My grandmother would never approve of such a thing. Marvel... WTF. Seriously. And if my husband loved his mother more than me, do I really want him for a husband...?

Maybe one day, people will change. Until then, worry about yourself, what you want to change, and be happy.

That's all anyone can do. Be happy, or be miserable. For the most part, I tend to choose the latter.

I like the first option personally.

Peter and MJ took the deal because they decided they could beat Mephisto, because they decided their love could take down any evil in the world. So, it wasn't Aunt May over MJ, it was Aunt May and MJ. If it was as you described I would not be buying a Spider-man comic today. Plus Mephisto's a pussy anyway, he gets beat down by Doctor Strange every other day.

Also, as for the self image thing... y'know the non-dorky serious section at the beginning. I think we all just need to take whatever comes at us in stride and let it raise us instead of break us. In the end we always want for something better, we just have to make sure it moves us toward the stars and not into the mud, unless you like mud... mud isn't that bad.

Not a big fan of mud. otakudc3k1 July 10 2008, 19:30:08 UTC
Yes I know thats what the full decision (with much hope invovled) was but still, you can't deny that he chose to save Aunt May at the price of his beautiful love. Gamble or not, thats a krazy decision.

Also I agree if it was done in such a dissatisfing way I would be very unhappy and wouldn't be reading still. (I've quit comics before, trust me I'm not over doing it again!)

The drive for self-improvement isn't a bad thing. You just have to let your faults inspire you instead of discourage you. Take this from someone with a LOT of faults.

I'm with Roy; you have to love and be comfortable with yourself to really be able to connect with others. You have to be able to feel happy giving yourself to them. And that's most of why we want to be better; to give a better person to the people we care about. Otherwise, there's no reason to be anything.

...

...As for Spiderman, I don't know the whole situation, but personally I think if Aunt May ever found out what happened, the fact alone would kill her and it would all be a moot point. ^_^;;;
