Woo! Congrats!

I know what you mean. The one time I stayed in a hotel, my friend had booked the trip with another friend ahead of time but he cancelled so I got invited and I didn't have to go look at reviews etc. because everything was already booked lol. Plus, pricing wasn't a problem because she was in the geography club so they were paying for everyone's hotels since her club and everyone's plus one was there for the geography convention. We all just had to cover our own food and gas. I checked out the other reviews after I left my review for the hotel and the people who gave 1-2 stars were over the dumbest things lmao. I was like, wow. Really?!

Doing fun stuff like going to a winery would be cool!

LOL yeah it is usually more fun to read the reviews *after* the fact and see how far off people's experiences were from yours. There are just so many variables. I'm hoping that going in October will means less people so they won't have that peak season rush of trying to clean the rooms as fast as they can for all the people coming and going.

I haven't done a winery tour in years so it might be cool to do one **in Canada** then I can find a favorite and bring it home and tell everyone it is *imported* LOL

Thank you! I really want to do Ireland or Scotland next, but I figured this was a good baby step. I started looking at them both earlier this year and overwhelmed myself LOL.

Though reading reviews really shows you what different people value in their hotels. I think people that travel more for business will pick on a hotel room's TV and what not more.

That's always something you have to look out for when looking for any place to stay in. People will just automatically look at the review scoring to see what the majority rate it, but you have to really investigate what their actual complaints are. Some of them are legit, but other times it's about personal preferences that they have issues with that are rather silly to give a one-star rating to. So it's always advisable to do thorough research when finding the right place for you.

For some reason B&Bs just freak me out. I guess I prefer the privacy and anonymity of a hotel.I do like the aesthetics of certain B&Bs, but I don't think I would stay in one. If I want to stay in someone's house for a time while traveling it would be someone who we know or know by proxy instead of paying for a stranger's place, y'know? I respect the practice and business of ( ... )

omg there was one 1-star review that someone gave because the person messed up the booking and didn't know they had booked the hotel in Canada not the U.S. and they were mad the hotel wouldn't just honor their other booking. I was like "how is that their fault???"

at least the exchange rate goes in our favor for canada. I'm booking for the UK and it's always a kick in the pants to convert back to dollars.

I'm also a spoiled traveler. I fully intended to book an air b&b for my time in scotland but my dad decided it wasn't safe enough and booked me a Marriott. And who am I to look a gift horse(hotel) in the mouth?

I was thinking for doing AirBnB in Ireland, my friend just went there though so I'm going to pick her brain for where to stay and how to search. She is really well-versed in AirBnB searching.

I had been thinking about Ireland or Scotland earlier this year and I got overwhelmed and set them aside. Maybe next year...when are you going? Can I just steal your itinerary? :)

I'm going in October. I'm only going to be in Scotland for a few days, not nearly long enough. But most of my time on the trip is going to be in London with my parents. The scotland bit is me running off to do my own thing. I'm mostly going to be in Glasgow and the highlands. I'm happy to share the research I've done thus far.

Oh I would happily take a look at any research you have and get any tips/tricks after your trip. :) Might help settle my nerves about booking something overseas on my own for the first time!
