Movie Night
The intention behind the gift had been for Jean to have a pleasant evening, by himself, or with anyone else, and enjoy the movie, with the other Marie-Mai fans. It hadn’t taken much for him to get tickets for the avant-premiere and he had only gotten them, because he knew it would make Jean happy and he had over heard someone mention that they had tickets.
Of course, the tickets came in pairs and he gave both tickets to him. Oliver hadn’t seen a problem, up until then, but naturally, with his luck, Jean had decided to take him to see the movie with him. Oliver wasn’t sure if he had done that to punish him, or if he genuinely wanted to see the movie with him, but the fact remained that he now found himself sitting beside Jean, in a crowded movie theatre, with dozens of other Marie-Mai fans, for the avant-premiere of her movie.
“Wake me up when it’s over.” He mumbled. Jean scoffed beside him and took the popcorn away.
“Fait dont un effort, avant de critiquer. Chuis sûr que ça va être full bon, pis qu’est vraiment bonne.”/ “Make an effort, before criticising. I’m sure the movie will be good and that she’s a really good actrice.”
“C’est incroyable à quel point tu l’idolâtres.”/ “It’s incredible how much you idolize her.” Jean’s cheeks coloured slightly and he was partially amused.
“Ta yeule. Si tu voulais pas v’nir, t’étais pas obligé. Ch’t’ai invité par pure politesse.”/ “Shut up. If you didn’t want to come, you didn’t have to. I invited you out of pure politeness.” Jean looked away and Oliver could tell his ego had been bruised. He didn’t say anything, but Jean did have a point. He wondered himself why he had accepted to come. He could have stayed home and enjoyed a quiet evening. Jean could have called him after the movie to let him know how it had been and they would have left it at that. They could have even gone to see another movie together, but for some reason, he had agreed and decided to come.
The movie finally started and with it, Jean’s scowl was replaced with a giddy smile. Oliver observed him, for a moment, before smiling softly to himself. He took Jean’s hand in his own and laced their fingers together.
This was why he had accepted the invitation.
