Because Jean-Pierre worked on Valentine’s Day and since it was one of the busiest days at the restaurant, they both agreed that they would celebrate the holiday later. However, Vincent still decided that he wanted to do something special, for his husband, on the day of, and that he wanted to see him. Therefore, after work, he made his way to Montreal, to surprise his partner.

“Ch’pensais qu’on avait dit qu’on allait célébrer plus tard.”/ “I thought we said we would celebrate later.” Jean-Pierre told him, when he came to see him, for his break. Vincent gave him a sheepish smile.

“I wanted to see you, is that so bad?”

“Non, mais t’as fait toute la route jusqu’ici… j’me sens mal.”/ “No, but you drove all the way here… I feel bad.”

“Don’t worry. I wanted to. And I’m not staying until you close. I’m leaving after I finish eating. J’voulais juste te voir, pis te dire allô. Moi aussi j’veux voir mon mari, à la St-Valentin.”/ “I just wanted to see you, and say hello. I wanted to see my husband too, on Valentine’s.” Jean-Pierre took his hand and gave it a warm squeeze.

“C’pas comme si ch’rais rentré dans quatres jours, là.”/ “It’s not as if I was gonna be home in four days.”

“No, but it would officially be the fifteenth.” Jean-Pierre gave him a smile.

“T’es adorable, mon amour.”/ “You’re adorable, my love.” The comment made Vincent blush.

“Yeah, well… it’s Valentine’s. And - and your flowers and gift are at home. I didn’t want the flowers to wilt.” Jean-Pierre laughed at his husband’s expression.

“Tu sais qu’t’es pas obligé, pis qu’on n’a pas besoin d’la St-Valentin pour s’dire qu’on s’aime?”/ “You know you don’t have to, and we don’t need Valentine’s Day to tell each other we love each other, right?”

“I know… but I like spoiling you too, even though you don’t always let me. And it’s nice to have one day where we can do little extra special things…” Vincent looked away to his dish. Jean-Pierre got up and went to peck his cheek.

“Je sais. Merci. Même si chais pas c’est quoi qu’tu nous as manigancé. On s’voit tantôt, dans c’cas?”/ “I know. Thank you. Even though I don’t know what you’ve planned for us. I’ll see you later, in that case?” Vincent nodded and reached for a hug.

By the time Jean-Pierre got home, it was well past midnight. He found the flowers, in a vase, on the kitchen table, with a nice card. He took a moment to read it, before he went to the other floor. When he got to their bedroom, a smile came to his face. He found his husband, lying on their bed, naked, fast asleep. It seemed as though he had tried to wait up for him, but had succumbed to sleep. There were also fake rose petals leading to their bed and on it as well, with a few lit candles, to create a mood. Some had long gone out, but others flickered bravely.

Jean-Pierre went to take a quick shower, before he returned to their room. He sat on his side of the bed and gently took out the book, from Vincent’s hands. It was then that he found a note, which said to wake him up, no matter what time it was, if he found him asleep.

He gently shook his partner’s shoulder and watched as Vincent blinked up at him lazily. He smiled and kissed his lips in greeting.

“Allô, mon amour…” Vincent smiled sleepily and pulled him closer.

“You’re home…” He murmured against his lips, before pressing them together.

“Oui… j’aime ton p’tit set up, c’est cute.”/ “Yes… I like your little setup, it’s cute.”

“I figured we could do something a little special, for tonight…” He yawned and made himself comfortable against his husband’s body.

“On peut r’mettre ça à plus tard, chéri, on n’est pas obligé.”/ “We can postpone it to later, dear, we don’t have to do it now.” Vincent shushed him with another kiss and pulled the comforter over their bodies.

“No, I wanted us to have a nice night… we don’t have to go full out… just - it’s Valentine’s - was Valentine’s and…” Jean-Pierre pulled Vincent flush against him and caressed his back. It was then that he realised his partner was also equally naked.

“Et y’a d’autres façons qu’on peut faire ça, c’est ça qu’tu voulais dire?”/ “And there are other ways we can do this, is that what you wanted to say?” He murmured in his ear.

“Oui…”/ “Yes…” He gave a tired grin, when he felt the other’s hands on his lower body.

“Bonne St-Valentin, chéri.”/ “Happy Valentine’s Day, love.”

“Hmm… bonne St-Valentin à toi aussi.”/ “Hmm… happy Valentine’s Day to you as well.”
