Caress
Vincent knew, for a long time, that he was somehow attracted to Jean-Pierre. He wasn’t sure if he was only physically attracted to him, or if there was something else about the man that sparked his interest, however over the years, as much as he didn’t want to, he found himself falling for him.
There were times when he wondered if it wouldn’t be better to give up on Jean-Pierre, move on and save himself from further heartache, but somehow, he was never able to do so. In retrospect, thinking about it now, he was glad he hadn’t.
He remembered the first real kiss he shared with Jean-Pierre, (the first one happened too quickly, for his brain to really process the feel of it,) once they sat outside, on the porch and spoke things through, he found that Jean-Pierre felt the same way about him. Therefore, their second kiss was the one that had sent butterflies in his stomach.
Every touch, every caress and every kiss that came afterwards still sent butterflies to his stomach. Even after almost four years. There was something always incredibly intimate about the caresses, from the small insignificant ones, to the longer meaningful ones. Even if Jean-Pierre only placed his hand on the small of his back, when they walked, it made his heart flutter and he fell in love with him a little more.
Despite every squabble, dispute, and fight, it was in the caresses that he was able to reconnect with his partner and find the man he had gotten to know and love.
There were times when they would have moments alone, when their schedules would coincide, where they would sit together. Sometimes, Jean-Pierre would hold him close and rub his back. Vincent would rest his head on his husband’s chest and listen to his heartbeat. It soothed him, ground him in the present moment and reminded him of what was important.
There were other times, other quiet moments, when they would find themselves looking at one another, communicating through their gazes. Sometimes, Jean-Pierre would lean closer to him and press his lips to his. Vincent would get that giddy feeling, once more and his vision would blur, ever so, with happiness, before he would close his eyes and kiss back his husband.
They never knew how long they would stay on the couch, exchanging murmured confessions and sweet kisses, but it was never a waste of time.
When Vincent wanted to relax, he would take a book, to the couch, to do some light reading. If Jean-Pierre was busy doing something else, he would come in the living room, later on, usually accompanied by Monsieur.
Vincent would pretend to keep reading, when he would really observe his partner play with their dog. A tender smile would grace his face, as he realised how lucky he was to have found this other side to Jean-Pierre.
After a while, he would close his book and join the other man’s side. He would lean close and peck Jean-Pierre’s cheek, linking their hands together. He would look up at him, as Jean-Pierre did the same and he was convinced they both had the same expression of love, on their faces, because in the end, he really and truly did love him.
