Remodeling costumes might be the most boring thing ever. But I have a couple of old costumes I can't squeeze myself into to save my life. Apparently I've gained a LOT of weight since 2003. I don't feel all that bigger, but the costumes don't lie ( Read more... )

Huh? Mine is attached under the pink skirt. You can see it well here:

It's sewn to the underside of the pink flounced skirt on one side, and attached with velcro (still on the underside) on the opposite side. The waistband I attached it to is sewn to the waistband of the pink skirt.

I'm glad you liked the updates! No point in having all these pictures if they're not displayed online. I have a whole CD full of old costume pictures, especially from the making progress. Time to get it online.

Do you wear a corset under the dress? I've heard that it's important to use "period underwear" under historical clothes, otherwise they don't look right.

No, I don't wear a corset under the Elissa costume. The Hannibal slavegirl bodice is a corset in itself (or "corseted", rather). The big skirt is worn outside this corseted bodice. Strangely the skirt still fits. Or should I say "luckilly"... But it's just attached in the waist with a hook and eye, so it wouldn't be too hard to alter the size.

As for the Italian Renaissance dresses, they didn't wear a corset at this point. The bodice were stiffened, and sometimes gathering waistband would be used. But I don't think that will be enough to squeeze myself into the pink Bronzino dress... Booooh.
