Besides, this is the same state that didn't ratify the 19th Amendment until 1971, didn't make marital rape illegal until 1993, and until 2006 had laws making cohabitation illegal and a class 2 misdemeanor

... wow. WOW.

This amendment will also make civil unions and common law marriages illegal

Really going whole-hog on this, I see. o.O

This is so much fucking fail. RIGHTS SHOULD NOT BE PUT TO A MOTHERFUCKING VOTE.

Yeah, basically. And we have people saying that if you don't want to be married under the legal, religious definition that you shouldn't be allowed the same benefits. So, yeah, it affects almost everyone in some shape or form. It mostly affects the LGBTQ community, but there will be a lot of straight people who will get fucked from this, too. They are definitely going whole hog. I'm surprised they didn't outlaw divorce while they are at it and throw in that they'll stone those who have relationships outside of their marriage!

Here's the thing about doing this vote as part of the May primary: the only Democrats who vote that day are going to be the ones who actually pay attention and give a shit. I AM NOT OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THIS AT ALL. (Er, not that Democrats would all vote against the amendment, of course, but they'd be more likely to than fucking Republican primary voters.)

Good fucking Lord. When will people learn that deciding who gets to have human/civil rights is a phenomenally bad idea?
