I have a graduate degree, I'm a registered Republican, and I don't want to vote for either one.

However, I am somewhat tired of the Republican=stupid thing.

I agree with your second statement -- stupid doesn't discriminate when it comes to political party affiliation!

I definitely don't think there aren't smart Republicans, but I think you have to place some of the culpability for the "Republican=stupid" mentality on Republicans themselves.

How many times have we heard that Obama is an elitist for attending an ivy-league university? There's definitely this perception that I think primarily Republicans are responsible for which aims to make some of their smartest candidates out to be regluar joes. Would anyone call Bush an elitist? Probably not, even though he comes from an extremely wealthy and connected family and he did in fact go to ivy league schools.

I just think that while they aren't totally to blame, Republicans have a hand in this image too.

yes, but it seems to be a default for many people to assume that Republican always equals stupid, or ignorant, or racist, or sexist or what not. it's a stereotype, and while a great many of my associates in the registered party are stupid, ignorant, racist, sexist, etc etc, i find it hard for the average Democrat or Liberal or Moderate to overcome viewing that stereotype. i'm a Republican that crosses party lines. i'm almost 100% socially liberal, but i'm still categorized as many a thing because my voter registration card says "Republican".

everyone's responsible for the image. good thing i at least know i'm not stupid!

I seriously loved that man so much, and have ever since i first saw him. Screw "Heathus" or Bernie Mac or whomever else (though I'm not trying to cheapen their deaths, per se), it was Russert that I was ~crying in the rain~ for. :(

It's a good thing he retracted his statement. I don't have to write an epic comment about smart college Conservatives and rail about how wrong he is.

P.S. He is definitely NOT like his father.

That's unfair - he's barely into his 20s and his father built his reputation over thirty years of newsservice.

Anyhow, studies have shown that people with college educations tend to vote Democratic; so there's some truth to his statement.

You're an absolute asshole.
Crawl back under your rock.
Possibly die while you're there.

We've been hearing this entire election that educated and affluent voters lean Obama. That's all that this is.

So, is he even truly a "journalist," or is he just doing this stuff for NBC b/c of his dad? I mean, did he go to school for journalism or anything like that? Is he considered an actual journalist or reporter, or is he considered, say, a contributor or commentator?

I don't know what his major was, but he went to the same school as his dad I think, and he had a radio show with James Carville for a few years.
