I have a graduate degree, I'm a registered Republican, and I don't want to vote for either one.

However, I am somewhat tired of the Republican=stupid thing.

I agree with your second statement -- stupid doesn't discriminate when it comes to political party affiliation!

I definitely don't think there aren't smart Republicans, but I think you have to place some of the culpability for the "Republican=stupid" mentality on Republicans themselves.

How many times have we heard that Obama is an elitist for attending an ivy-league university? There's definitely this perception that I think primarily Republicans are responsible for which aims to make some of their smartest candidates out to be regluar joes. Would anyone call Bush an elitist? Probably not, even though he comes from an extremely wealthy and connected family and he did in fact go to ivy league schools.

I just think that while they aren't totally to blame, Republicans have a hand in this image too.

yes, but it seems to be a default for many people to assume that Republican always equals stupid, or ignorant, or racist, or sexist or what not. it's a stereotype, and while a great many of my associates in the registered party are stupid, ignorant, racist, sexist, etc etc, i find it hard for the average Democrat or Liberal or Moderate to overcome viewing that stereotype. i'm a Republican that crosses party lines. i'm almost 100% socially liberal, but i'm still categorized as many a thing because my voter registration card says "Republican".

everyone's responsible for the image. good thing i at least know i'm not stupid!

Why aren't you registered Libertarian?

This is one of the things I don't get about social liberal Republicans. Virtually everything you want can be found in the Libertarian party. So why are you still hanging your hats on the party of theocrats and war profiteers?

1. because my best friend has been trying to convince me forever that i'm a Libertarian, and i refuse to give him the satisfaction, lol.

2. i moved to new jersey, so i had to change my voter registration, and now (as of this afternoon) i'm a registered independent.

I have met many people who have graduate degrees (Republican or not) and they are the biggest retards that I have ever met.

It is as if their common sense was tossed out the window. Sometimes I wonder how they put their shoes on in the morning.

People should remember that a degree does not guarantee smarts.
