there's a pattern for GOP presidential nominees so that typically the runner up for the GOP candidate will have the RNC's support thrown behind them in the next election.

palin is a rl troll and i would love to see her do primary debates

Except that this "pattern" was already debunked by Nate Silver a few months ago.

ehhh they already call him a RINO. Trust, it'll be blamed on his populist angle when he loses.

Trust, it'll be blamed on his populist angle when he loses.

The Republican elite will try to spin it that way, no doubt, but the problem is, if they do, the Republican base WILL reject it, because when it comes to the issues that count with those folks (guns, God and gays), Huck is the MOST "real" Republican of any of 'em.

I don't know though, they say Palin and Huckabee have the same base, so why's Palin losing popularity?

Palin's gender alone always made her a bitter pill for the Dominionists to swallow, even though she espoused their message, because while they could accept her in the short term as a possible means of pitting white women against black men in '08, now that they've had some time to think about it, they've realized HOLY SHIT WE ALMOST PROMOTED A WOMAN TO THE PRESIDENCY, and especially when you have an equally conservative candidate like Huck, why risk THAT?

So true. They may have liked her, but deep down, (and sometimes not so deep down), they think she should be at home tending the offspring, making more.

I seem to recall a 538 post a few months back polling each of the GOP possible candidates vs. Obama. Romney and Huckabee lost to Obama by about the same margin as McCain, Palin and Gingrich lost by more.

That's something that all the people who go on about Obama's approval ratings seem to be missing- America may not have a glowing view of Obama and the Democrats right now, but the left hasn't even *begun* to screw the pooch enough to make them vote Republican again.

I don't know what shadymaggot would say on this. BUT if enough Obama voters decided that a)they didn't get what they wanted out of him during his first term or that b)enough other people are voting so they don't have too he she could win. That's the big way I can see Obama not making it to a second term. It's a huge possibility. Look at 2004.

In 2004, Bush cheated. And Kerry was never the candidate Obama was.
