There are a certain segment of conservatives who literally cannot believe that anybody would see the world differently than the way they do. They have not just forgotten how to persuade; they have forgotten about the necessity of persuasion.

So true.

Maybe. Personally I see the internet as a large reason for their loss. Republican just did not utilize it well. It's also demographically younger which helps Democrats. If they don't catch up soon, they may find themselves in the same positions liberals did with radio.

Saul: [frustrated sigh] How did this happen?
Dale: Well we clearly fell asleep with the battery on and-...
Saul: Aw, man... Talk radio?
Dale: Yes, talk radio.
Saul: So boring, man! The car just committed suicide.

I stopped listening to talk radio after discovering right wing blogs. Of course, it didn't help that the most popular shows came on during class or afterschool activities. I think the internet killed talk radio more than anything else.

internet killed talk radio

Is talk radio really dead, though? Limbaugh and Hannity and O'Reilly are still pretty popular and listened to by a lot of people.

Talk radio will never die. It might get less popular, but as long as cars need to be driven and houses need to be cleaned, talk radio will have an audience.

I would slightly adjust one sentence like this:

"the biggest problem with neo-conservatives and right-leaning socially-conservative reactionaries is that the world/America changes, while they do not."

Just because a remarkably high number of traditional, fiscal conservatives employed more logic-based rationales when it came to making the case for an Obama presidency, and weren't at all caught up in the hysteria-based rabble rounding (i.e., Seekrit Muslim/Scary Reverend/Manchurian Terrorist/Antichrist/Socialist Nazi-gate™).

As I see it, neo-con radio DJs were never representatives of American conservatism, but rather of pockets of American political demagoguery driven by willful ignorance. Actual American conservatism, I'd argue, is still in tact.
