I thought it strange that we didn't get that many ads here compared to previous cycles, and it was the same damn two over and over again (Trump and nukes and Trump as a jerkface) but I don't think the Clinton campaign really tried hard in SWVA in expectation that NoVa would carry the day.

But good lord what a way to blow tons of money. :/ Like... the sheer amount of money wasted is eye-opening.

Are we pretending that policy and not character was at issue in this election?

She could have tried to change the conversation

I think she could have done a better job fighting back against Republicare. Trump is going to let the republicans gut medicare and medicaid, which we all knew was coming because this has been Paul Ryan's thing since forever, and she barely made a peep about it.

I don't know if it would have made any difference if Hillary's ads were more policy based. After all, her detractors would have just countered any suggestion with whining about her ~ emailz ~

The"Two Americas" Trump ad ran here a lot (Metro Detroit), I also remember an ad from him about bringing back jobs that was more upbeat and I don't think mentioned Clinton.

I don't remember any non-attack ads from Clinton. There was the Trump is sexist ad and Trump is a nutcase who is gonna start WWIII ad

I wonder what percentage of votes make decisions based on ads. I still think Michigan, at least, was lost because of poor ground game. The Clinton folks thought they were going to win here, but the Trump folks were willing to fight for this state.

TBH outside of introducing people, I wouldn't be surprised if ads don't influence. At least everyone I know it's a burnout "dear god in heaven please let this end!!" kind of state.

But +1000 on the ground game. I've read so much on Clinton's campaign relying on data models and data sets and that's a losing combination if your data starts out wrong to begin with.

Yeah, and this was a weird election where both candidates already had almost 100% name recognition before the election even started. The most common thing I heard from people was "I cannot wait until this shit is over"

Yup. There were zero people in my circle excited for it. :/ Except now we're stuck with things for the next two years so... no winning.
