This is a chart showing how much each recent presidential candidate has focused on policy issues in ads. Look at the right!!! pic.twitter.com/pUecelQgbk - Jeff Stein (@JStein_Vox) March 8, 2017
Of Clinton's attack ads vs. Trump, only 10% (!) touched on policy. Does anyone believe Bernie would've fallen into this trap? pic.twitter.com/ZSPWlfM9Wv - Jeff Stein (@JStein_Vox) March 8, 2017
Just one more jaw-dropping, heart-wrenching chart. This is the Clinton team realizing they were fucked in the Rust Belt way, way too late: pic.twitter.com/W7qB1D742w - Jeff Stein (@JStein_Vox) March 8, 2017
Okay, but her speeches weren't and her website had the most complete policy breakdown of any candidate that ran in 2016. Way more thorough than Bernie's, which I actually found surprising.
I'm surprised the study didn't explicitly code for value based frames. I suspect it's that more than policy talk that helped Trump. Hillary didn't have a chance to lay out the values of her campaign if she was in attack mode the whole time. You would think her campaign had never read Lakoff.

Remember, Clinton's focus on personality wasn't just a tactical decision. It was a form of class politics https://t.co/YDVmf1xaI1 pic.twitter.com/Ym8wxLEFfv
