The Democrats likely won't be able to take anything back in 2018. The seats up for election are "safe." It would be a HUGE upset if they flipped. There is the possibility of winning state elections, but given how terrible the DNC is at supporting this level of government, I wouldn't hold your breath.

You can't make this shit up. They're at their weakest as a party in almost 90 years and still don't think there's a problem.

No I think the DNC got the message loud and clear, the left and progressives don't like them (DNC). The natural response is the DNC shouldn't care about them either. Maybe it's time the two just part ways and be done with it.

Or maybe it's time the left and progressives turn out in force to take the Democratic Party back from the neo-liberals and make it the party of the people again.

No third party stands a chance against the GOP, and if they gain much more power, they'll rig the rules even more, so nobody has a chance against them. "We must, indeed, all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

That is something that can happen but I personally see it as unlikely as it takes time for that to happen. It means the left and progressives joining the DNC and then showing up and voting every chance they get even when their choices aren't great for years. It means being active in the DNC now even knowing they might not get real control and power until 2020, 2024 or maybe not until 2028 and given that many on the left gave up on the DNC already I just don't see it happening.

This ^^^

The Conservatives have been at this since the 60s.
Fixing things is not going to be about instant gratification.

Spot-on; you've nailed it in all the ways. But as for your conclusion:"If the Democratic Party had the slightest shred of integrity left to it, it would spend the next four years relentlessly probing and publicly assaulting this administration on all these fronts, never once tainting itself with any association of any sort."
... the only way that happens is if We the People join the Democratic Party and spend the next four years relentlessly calling and writing our legislators and party leaders every week.

Like it or not, what we have is a two-party system. That's not going to change unless/until we get run-off voting, which won't happen soon. I would rather be Green, but I joined the Dem Party because the only chance we have of protecting the environment, avoiding war, and redressing systemic inequality and injustice is by electing Democrats to office who will stand their ground, and making sure they do it ( ... )

True, red-staters are puzzled by the concerns of those in blue states, and sometimes you can hear them mutter: “Y’all say ‘gun homicide’, ‘teen pregnancy’, ‘infant mortality’ and ‘morbid obesity’ as if those were bad things!”

and - big shock - want to know why red states do so much worse than blue states? Because federal money and federal programs get funneled to blue states since they have stronger economies. And why do blue states have stronger economies? Better access to education, federal programs, and more money. And why do they get money? Because federal money and federal programs get funneled to them ( ... )

You're wrong, the biggest blue states pay for the red states, not the other way around. These poor mostly conservative states get more money in govt funding than they ever pay out in taxes, and the services they do have are subsidized by NY and CA (among others).

Sort of. As OP and i were talking about further down, the money doesn't necessary go where it needs to go. Red states still have pockets of blue (like Texas) and they tend to get the funding, not the dirt-poor poverty areas where teen pregnancy, mental health, etc. are bigger problems. Along with that thanks to Dems not GAF'ing the safe red states and investing ANY money in local elections, it means Repubs have full control and can tell the Federal government "screw you we don't want your money" as we saw with so many red states rejecting Obamacare subsidies.

eta: And ofc I acknowledge that it's still a little bit of a misnomer to talk about red states versus blue states because what we've really been seeing is blue cities versus red non-cities. Even in New York, California, safely "blue" areas, it's only because of New York City or LA or San Francisco where population density is pretty high and completely ignores the other areas of the state which are populated by farmland and where conservatism is still alive and well. Which ( ... )
