Perfect icon.

The Right really does seem to have this difficulty with how they think people 'should' act or react vs. what they actually do. Cutting welfare doesn't make people who are poor suddenly 'wise up' and stop having children or work for a promotion. Keeping drugs illegal may scare some off from using them, but it's not a solution. Keeping tweens and teens ignorant about sex doesn't keep them from having it, or in the rare cases it does it leaves them unprepared for when they do grow up, get married, and start having sex with their spouse.

Yep, that's one form of leaving them unprepared for a good, mature sexual relationship.

Absolutely awesome of him, and exactly what is needed, but they will *never* let this budget pass.
*sigh*

Yeah, I was pretty surprised that he put this forward since I'd kind of written off abstinence-only funding as just one of those things that's got to go in. & it'll probably get added back, sadly, but I guess this is a pretty good strike against it, at least?

I live in TX and abstinence only teaching is such bullshit. Going all through high school with it was so awful. San Antonio has such high pregnancy rates. This such great news because we shouldn't be promoting something that is the literal cause of high teen pregnancy rates.
