How did he graduate medical school without having finished undergrad? Is there something I'm missing here? Idgi.

He may have taken all the required pre-requisite courses for admission, but did not completed his degree.

The medical school either didn't do their homework to ensure he had a degree or were bought off. edit: nm, apparently all he needed was the prereq courses!??!

He must have either lied and they didn't verify, or he was expected to complete the degree, didn't, and no one followed up. You didn't miss a thing - one of the schools I applied to even had my transcript and still wanted further proof besides the notation of my degree and date.

If he lied at any point in the process, he can lose his license.

He's not even certified. Rand Paul's certification comes from the “National Ophthalmology Board”, an organization that he founded back in 1997.

The medical school he went to may not have required a bachelor's degree for admission and only required completion of pre-requsite courses.

You're right. According to this WaPo article, Duke didn't require applicants to have a bachelor's degree at the time, though they do now.

The requirement of bachelor's degree was prob added to reduce applicants so admissions isn't buried. Also with more applicants, competition increases, more applicants have bachelors and it became the norm. Same thing is happening in pharmacy, at first it was 2 years of pre-req in undergrad, then it was 3 years, and in the next few years a bachelor's will probably be required.
