Can I point out that people who somehow will and hope for this movie to come back is kind of weirdly parallel to the original.

I rage-quit shortly after the time skip so I'm a bit behind too, but it's that sort of series that you need to take a break from at times or you'll just get burned out. Naruto never really caught my interest, but I read enough of it to know about the characters.
