I'm just so sick of these stories. After reading about cops shooting dogs, PUPPIES, shooting dogs after going to the WRONG ADDRESS. It's hard to remember that police officers exist to protect the public and their family members from danger when so often these officers seem cruel and/or extremely incompetent and irresponsible.

I agree completely. Departments need to realize these shootings utterly destroy any good will and trust their officers have in the community. People should absolutely never be afraid of the police gunning down their dog, and with more than half of all people now having dogs....they need to change with the times and prevent this nonsense from happening.
Does a situation occur sometimes where there's no other choice? Obviously some dogs are vicious, and have to be put down. But so many of these cases are simply, "It was a pit bull" and that's taken as complete justification. The officer has merely to say they felt threatened, and that's that. And it is not cool.
Whenever I just want to scream about this shit, I always go look at this picture. It gives me happy fluffy feelings.

My general impression is that most officers are wonderful, incredible people that take on an incredibly dangerous and stressful career for the greater good. So many of them go to work every single day, knowing fully well that today they could die. They do it because they want to help people, but of course there are always those that are attracted to it because of power. Those few bad seeds ruin it for everyone, and cause so much harm to the vast majority that are amazing people deserving of respect.
But the brotherhood sort of creates a problem, since they feel this need to protect each other even when they know the other guy has seriously fucked up. I do understand that so much of it comes from the fact these are the people they have to put all their trust into, and that naturally creates a powerful bond. But protecting those that cross the line just hurts everyone, both officers and the public ( ... )
