I know that debt collectors are often the bottom of the scum bucket but I think this guy has dropped completely out the bottom.

Oh I hope the couple sues that company senseless.

I had a debt collection agency guy lose his freaking mind screaming at me one day when I calmly quoted law and rule to him. Like, unhinged, get the medication and a nice rest. I was furious, filed complaints. Not that it ever really helps. during the time I had my loan in collections ( not due to my own inaction but because the banks lost the file entirely), I watched it go through about 18 different agencies in 6 years.

The abuse they'll use to get you to pay is insane. They're legally not supposed to here, but they will tear your life apart if they think they can get more money out of you.

( I did eventually get that thing paid off.)

Debt collectors are not reputable people. They get hired by the handful to get on the phone to harass and bully people, many times pushing inaccurately accounted debts on innocent recipients. Many collection agencies do not bother to do a background check on these people, so the people making these calls literally could've gotten out of jail last month.
