Not only does this drive me to an actual homicidal rage -- how fucking DARE he!? -- it makes me want to cry. :/

Mr Collier [I didn't see his rank given in the article] gave so much for this country, and then THIS happens?

Several years ago the call center I worked for was bought out and turned into a collections department. Needing a job, I stayed and was trained. I can say that honestly, for the most part, most people working collections hate it just as much as the people getting called but they need a job. It's the companies themselves and the people who really love their job that need to be watched. We were trained what we could legally say and not say (not that I ever got the feeling that we would be punished as long as we got the money). What bothered me the most were the legal things we were pushed to say. We were told to tell students to drop out and get a job to pay off their debts and things like that. Companies just want their money and don't care how they get it. To be honest, even if they had to pay on this case it was probably worth it for the millions of other dollars they got from this kind of harassment. Luckily I was able to find another job quickly and I didn't have to work in that kind of environment.

That was always what I had assumed about most people working in collections- that they hate it as much as the people getting called.
And I guess I've been lucky that so far all interactions I've had with collection agencies have been decent. (Of course limited to a hospital copay I paid but then got sent to collections, so it should not have ever ended up with the collection agency. The collections person just told me I needed to get the hospital to tell them it was already paid off, which happened I think because after talking to the hospital the collections agency never called again and it never went on my credit report (yay!) and the other was when they were calling me to try to get a hold of my mom.)

ugh that is disgusting and horrifying. I hope that company gets cleaned out, it would be nice if they got hit with some kind of criminal penalities as well.

What vile fucking money grabbers. No one should ever be treated like this, but to treat a veteran whose served your country (even if you don't agree with the war, support the troops god dammit) and is now forever in pain due to a serious spine injury is fucking disgusting.

If someone is in true dire straights you shouldn't berate them and make them feel any worse than they already do. Support them instead of making them feel like utter scum. And go after the rich that evade tax but can actually pay it and not worry if they will have enough to pay for food, rent, heat etc.

"...while the rest of us honest Americans work our asses off."

Says the dude verbally abusing someone to collect money he doesn't have the right to collect.

This is so fucked, I hope the couple wins the lawsuit and I hope that guys gets fired. People don't live on disability for funsies, jfc
