but in all seriousness, I agree about the lack of resolve in their dynamic in the finale. Not even for the romantic aspect, but definitely just as their friendship. But I think the entire season with the flash sideways was a good ~*~closure~*~ for them. Or something.
I once shipped the scum ship of a fandom and got slapped and it was painful and ugly. But you know, it is what it is, unfortunately. I don't want to diminish what you thought because really, I was there once. But what he had with Kate was not the real thing. It was a heated, explosive and sexual kind of thing and they never had the time to make it something deeper and more significant. At the end of the day, he had with Juliet far more time to go through several stages of different kinds of love and to be with her as a mature human being. Maybe that would've happened had he left with Kate. But he jumped off the helicopter and then fell in love with Julie and they lived it out for 3 years.
LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OKAY: AT LEAST IT WASN'T LULZ WE'RE TOGETHER ALL THIS TIME, WE JUST PRETEND NOT TO HAVE ANY FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER EVEN THOUGH IT'D BE CONVENIENT TO THE PLOT AND WE COULD BE A BIG, BEAUTIFUL THING. *GLARING AT MY OTP RN.*
I enjoyed the dynamic Sawyer/Kate had, but it was never more than sex for either of them in the long run. Both Jack/Kate and Sawyer/Juliet had time to build an actual relationship.
However, I like to think that S/K stayed with each other once off the island for good, but it was nothing more than a platonic, trying to cope with the shit they just went through type thing.
I disagree that it was just sex for Sawyer. He kissed her before jumping off the helicopter, remember? That wasn't done with the intent of having sex with her again.
I think it was mostly passive-aggressiveness for Kate, since she was always in love with Jack. And once Juliet & Sawyer were transported to 1974, Sawyer got over Kate. But Kate did show tenderness towards Sawyer when he got shot.
So even though Skate was not meant to be, it wasn't totally invalid.
