SUPER CONTROVERSIAL SHIP POST
I probably wouldn't dare to be posting this were I not just a little bit drunk at the moment, but here goes anyway:
Ok, so I know that this community's relationship with Sawyer/Kate is, er, less than friendly.
But I will freely admit that I shipped them very hard until they killed off Juliet in the Season 5 finale, which is when I said OKBAI to the Quadrangle and its fucked-upness for good. Because by then I had reached a point where I deemed strong female characters appearing on TV - especially on a show like LOST - much more important than my favourite couple ending up together. And Juliet being killed off just so that Sawyer and Kate could have a chance of ending up together, er, did not sit well with me. At all.
But you know what? I also admit that I didn't like how they completely ignored Sawyer and Kate's friendship and their previous romance in the finale. I also can't blame the Skaters for being pissed off, at least just a little. I'm not talking about those who say that they hated the finale just because Sawyer and Kate didn't end up together (FWIW, I think that possibility died out long ago as soon as Suliet became canon) but still - as someone who has always appreciated the chemistry between Josh and Evi, I was at least expecting some sort of resolution or friendly conclusion to what Sawyer and Kate had shared together on the Island.
The way I see it now was that Skate was there to give Sawyer a huge dose of Karma for the way he treated women whilst he was a conman. He fell in love for the first time, and it was fitting that his heart got broken. After he jumped off the helicopter, he was "baptised" and he and Juliet became the new 'Jack and Kate' of the island. And the more I think of it this way, the more I actually do grow to like Suliet.
But from a writing point of view, I do find it hard to understand why they completely ignored this relationship, especially since they honoured every other one that ever happened. For me it was like BSG all over again - I had given up on Kara and Lee a long time ago because i was really disappointed with the direction they had taken Kara's character, yet for some reason I really resent that they didn't give her friendship with Lee the send-off it deserved.

Also - lets keep this as civil as possible, yeah? :( I think, and have always thought, that this community's vibe is brill on the whole and I really like the lack of shipwars. I just honestly want to know what everyone thinks about how Sawyer/Kate ended.

And I think it's only fair that the - few - vocal Sawyer/Kate shippers on this comm get a chance to have their own say and whether they thought their ship ended in a good way or not. Because I really do feel for them. I HAVE A HEART, OKAY :P
