I don't mind MLS news because I can't it follow it, I just don't have time.

Poor Mattiello, that looked horrible. He'll be in for a long recovery. Roma drew their 11th of 26 matches. They are now 8 points down to Juventus who have a match in hand.

Balotelli got criticised again this week. The poor dude, is his talent a blessing or a curse, I don't know. I think the media have created expectations that he cannot possiblt achieve. Destined to fail, I guess.

Mustafi scored! We need some German defenders doing well before the Euros next year.

OT: but I just saw that England's Cricket World Cup went a lot like their football World Cup. (I'm not entirely sure because I don't understand a lot of that sport. What a strange coincidence.

The cricketing team are in transition (i.e. our best player alienated himself and decided to join um IPL - a lot of cricket players are going that way because it's good money than county cricket, our captain resigned, I think, and the board is a mess). To be honest with you, I think the better cricketers might do IPL over county cricket anyway, it seems to have more money. Still, against freaking Bangladesh? Ugh, England needs to feel ashamed.

Balotelli - eh, *kanye shrug* I think he did the best that he could. Late sub, everyone was flat, and especially with the pall that cast over the stadium after Skertel went down - it seems unfair to pile on Balotelli. Oh, well.

How is county cricket? Does it run throughout the year?

The IPL is a better option because the money is HUGE here and it runs for 2 months (lol, in peak summer when the average temps in most cities is 36°C-ish).

From what I know, Bangladesh aren't a terrible team but they're definitely the worst out of all the South Asian NTs. I'm still hoping that India crash out in the knockouts (things aren't going my way, sob).

Bangladesh is terrible and they got 297 runs out of seven wickets, jeez. England couldn't step up to that, Lordt.

County cricket in England - goes from April to October- barring the dodgy weather (some matches can get called off) and in order to be selected for the NT, you have to be playing county cricket. As much as Pieterson is a talent, he's a dick, and that seems to override whatever talent he has, so it's best for the national NT to crash and rebuild again.

Yeah, I think the Caribbean is doing their version of IPL too? The IPL is nice in that the game is fast (like a one day match) with the pomp and swag of an American NFL game.

latest reports say Mattiello didn't suffer any ligamentary damage despite the fracture and will be back in 5-7 months.

i don't care about MLS in the slightest but pics/info about it here don't bother me either.

the Benítez to LFC is turning into a ridiculous telenovela.

That tackle was malicious - I think the lad who did it is linked with Chelsea (who isn't?)

Hmm, to be honest if the consensus is more indifference than interest, I'll drop it tbh. Save my witty repartee for something else :P

LOLOLOL. I won't lie, it would be nice to see what Rafa would/could do with the investment that Rodgers now has, because when he was manager of LFC, towards the end of his tenure the club was running on fumes and almost went into administration circa 2011. Benitez had an eye for talent, and his attention to the academy (a strength of his) helped a lot.

I think his wife and children live in Liverpool? Idek.

Hey, MLS pictures! I should pay attention to it more but the timings are even more punishing than the European fixtures for me. I'm quite indifferent to the league, tbh. I did watch their cup final last season and this season looks promising with Stevie and Lampy around and with old Landycakes dead and gone retired.

Glad to hear about Skrtel. Tbh, I didn't think Blackburn were particularly impressive so that says more about Liverpool than them. Still, Kolo worked his ass off and Mignolet was phenomenal and they didn't lose.

Idiot journalists hating on Super Mario, like Sterling and Sturridge did a fab job. I'm blaming Glen Johnson because his crosses to Mario were awful.

I'm dreading today's match 😫

I know what you mean by punishing times. The earliest match to watch is about 11:30 pm my time - on a Sunday night? Nope.

I don't mind putting MLS pictures in the posts as long as people don't really expect me to know much about the structure of the league, etc?

Blackburn had a great defence, NGL, I could dig it.

Ugh Glen Johnson. I'll be glad when he goes, seriously. Sturridge's decision making is shocking, NGL.

It's Arsenal vs Man United, right? LvG has said that he isn't bothered about the FA cup, it's top four or bust!

Really, I thought Thumbsy said that he wanted at least one trophy in his first season. And since there's no way United are going to win the league, he'll settle for the Cup.

Thumblsy wants both. I don't think he's the one to sacrifice a title. And it would be stupid too. They are just 3 wins away from the title. If they didn't want to win, they should gone out in the first round.

i miss delfina. i was reading suarez's book (which i didn't buy, i just read all the liverpool/stevie parts and cried a bit in the bookstore lol) , and he was saying how during eng vs urg in the wc she asked her mom: "why are you so happy? liverpool are losing," because she didn't recognize any of the uruguay players and she only knew stevie, studge, hendo, raheem and glen (and flanno ( ... )

Eh Rodgers freezes out players too jazzypom March 9 2015, 13:00:47 UTC
The only reason Migs got back on the pitch was because of Brad Jones' injury. Not to mention the way how he treated Agger (in defense of Agger, I think he knew that his time was coming to an end, but how Rodgers went about it was sharkish - the club just about redeemed itself when they sold Agger to Bronby-- considering that Agger stayed with LFC when City and Barcelona came a courting, it was the least the club could do). Also, Rodgers putting out Balotelli as a scapegoat when his tactics weren't working won't be soon forgotten either ( ... )

"Rafa didn't attend the funeral of his father, because of the job"

What? This is the sort of thing people regret later in life.

The biggest success Liverpool achieved in the last 10 years was winning the title in Istanbul. I have no idea how you can underestimate the importance of a group match against Real Madrid. That was quite strange. I mean, once you are in, you might as well try to win it.

Hmmm Benitez is... Benitez jazzypom March 9 2015, 13:57:49 UTC
He's a famously prickly sort, who, when Torres saw him after the birth of his son, Torres expected some sort of congratulations, but Benitez didn't ask after his child or his mum's welfare, but took Torres to task for a missed goal. Rafa is Rafa.

No one is bigger than the team, says Simeone, not me, not anyone.

^ Real Madrid should really take that advice and sub Ronaldo off when he's not performing well...(sorry guys but I just saw the Athletic vs RM game today and I am mmmaaadddddd). Why can't Ancelotti be a bit more like Simeone??

I LOVE THE MLS PICS (mostly because let's be honest, who has time to follow the league and it's nice to know what ex-european players are getting up to. I miss Villa.

David Villa, formerly of Barca, Atlético Madrid, Sydney FC (really?) and now NYFC player (um, no, it was Melbourne City haha where did you find that?)

I'm so happy that Fernando is baaaccckkkkk. He's doing so much better now and is looking really solid. (Also, my brother always talks shit about him so now I feel like I'm not supporting a lost cause wooohooo!!)

Heeeellllllloooo Messiiii'sss torso...where have you been hiding?? However, the positive image was quickly ruined by this...

In that short of Fernando Torres (who pretty much left Atletico Madrid two years later than he should have - but he did it for the club to get some money) they don't really have stars. They have good, nay, exceptional players, but no one with the star power of Ronaldo or Bale or whatever, which works for the club in that they are seen as a unit ala Sparta. In addition, Simeone is given free reign to govern as he pleases. If a player isn't performing to standard, you're not going to get the President or the rest of the socios calling you on the carpet to explain yourself ( ... )

See of course, I know all this. I just can't help whinging about it haha. I know what RM is like...(I just sometimes wish Ancelotti could say "screw you I'm the manager and I'm going to do what I think is best".

But I mean, could you imagine how that would go down with Ronaldo and the like?!

Exactly, Simeone is so realistic and he just wants everyone to perform at their 100%, that's how they earn their spot in the team. Also, he's so passionate... the players aren't just playing for themselves and the team but for him as well. It must be so motivating.

(I agree 100% about how chill he is, he seems so down to earth and just a great guy all-round.)

Yes, I wish we could both be flies on the wall. I wonder if Simeone shouts or does the whole disappointed thing or what he actually tells Torres...

I can't see Ancelotti throwing his weight around like that. Mourinho tried that by benching Casillas and eventually got ran out a rail, so... *whistles* But yeah, Ronaldo should have sat down after that whole brushing off his badge stunt- ugh.

iirc, I think he and Torres have been friends (well, they have a relatively warm relationship, I've read) since they played together back in 2005, and Torres always asked after Atletico, so I think he's always looking to bust a lung for the team. But I'm sure they speak mano y mano. Torres is 30, and has served under Rafa (oy), Ancelotti, Mourinho et al, I'm sure he knows how to take the direction from the coach, you know?
