Thanks for this, especially for the Dale Farm article - I live relatively nearby. The amount of blind, ignorant hatred towards that site I generally encounter from people around here and the local media just sickens me.

Agreed. Hiding behind that pathetic green belt excuse doesn't make ripping up that community in any way okay. The council wouldn't have given a damn if some random local people had built on that land. Ugh, fucking Tories.

Dale Farm belongs to them, it's not like they're living on someone else's land. Why shouldn't they live there, they paid for it.

Tories never catch on.

Thank you for this. I'm from Canada and I hadn't realised that stuff like this went on until a couple of years ago. My best friend and I were bored and watching Wife Swap and there was a Roma family on, and she got really pissed off because of the other family's attitude (her family is from Switzerland/the UK). It was the first time I'd heard anything about it.

Crap, thanks. I'm sorry. I'd scrolled up to see what to use but obviously not far enough, I missed the bit at the beginning of the post.

Not trying to be obtuse, but what's the difference between "Romani" and "Roma/Sinti?"

The only group I've ever had personal interaction with are the Irish Travellers, so I'm completely and utterly ignorant here.

Yes, indeed, it did. Now, on the off chance that there are any Romani who cross my path and there is some reason to talk about that person's ethnicity as opposed to cat grooming or the price of gas or whatever, I will know the proper term to use ( ... )

I know this must have taken a lot of time and effort to put together, so I wanted to say thank you for going out of your way to provide all of these links. I really appreciate having gotten to read through all of these - and learning of new sites to keep an eye on to continue to inform myself.

Would you mind if I linked some of my friends (from off-LJ) to this post, as a good source for them?
