What I Did On Sunday

Sep 16, 2008 15:52

Over the weekend, I made a very drastic decision.  I am not very happy about it, but I still feel it was the best choice for all involved parties.  The problems that my decision resolves are 1) I have limited time to spend with Faith now that school is here, and I don't want to waste it and 2) Faith had a mat at the end of her tail and on her head ( Read more... )

I was worried your decision was much more worrisome than that!

I keep Crow's hair that length all the time because, honestly, I can't be bothered to do the quantity of grooming that's required for longer hair. I love it when their hair is short because they look like velvet. :)

The look and feel of the crushed velvet coat is nice, but I still think a poodle should be, well, a little poofy. At least Crow still has his nice poodley head! Still, it does feel liberating to put away my slicker, comb, and scissors for the time being.

haha at the pinhead and rat tail - that's why whenever I shave Darce down I leave his head and tail fluffy. He also looks more "familiar" that way, too. I know you can't do that due to breed standard or whatnot, but I'm just saying!
Does she also have the scrawny legs that look pitiful without hair or bracelets?

Her legs are like little twigs! She looks so out of proportion. :(

i have a naked dog all year. well... ok. pit bulls do not grow beautiful coats like poodles. but i completely understand where you are coming from on this. i'd rather spend my limited time playing than grooming. (although time spent grooming is good bonding time. but not as good as playing!)
it will grow back.
she does look kinda cut all naked like that.

At least now my sister has no reason to flaunt her whippet's no maintenance coat! A few people have told me that her new look is cute, but most people say ask me where Faith is in mock puzzlement.

I have shaved Savannah bald before. I was told it would take her a year to grow out but it didn't. A few months and she had topknot and ears again. At the moment her overall body length is the same as Faith's and she also has no tail pom. The only thing that shows she is a Poodle is I left her topknot and ears. I shaved her tail because it had gotten a mat in it also. I shaved her short because

A.) I like the way a fluffy Poodle looks, but Savannah hates being groomed.

B.) I like the way she looks in a short kennel or bikini clip, but I am no good at bracelets.

C.) I thought we might be spending a lot of time at the beach and like you said a bath takes five minutes.

D.) She has been itching a lot lately and I'm still not sure what is causing it.

So basically, Faith isn't alone in her nekkid Poodleness. There are many reasons to do what you did and there's nothing wrong with it regardless of what some Poodle snobs may say (I dealt with that in the past on Furkids)

Nekkid poodles of the world unite! It will definitely not take Faith a year to get her coat back--I had her shaved down like this the December before last, and in the spring she was in a serviceable (for me) Town and Country (or some such) clip. Their hair grows so fast.

Has the short coat helped with Savannah's itching?

Well, she isn't itching as much as she had been, but she is still itching. I'm not sure what is causing it. It's not fleas, her food hasn't been changed. I washed her about two weeks ago with tea tree oil shampoo that is supposed to be good for dry skin and will probably do it again tomorrow. I guess she could need something different though and I'm probably going to start adding fish oil to her food to see if that makes a difference.

omg naked dog! i used to shave my little poodle except for her topknot and a little poof at the end of her tail. i ended up liking her ears short, and since she was not that excited about having having them combed and would frequently mat behind them, life was definitely easier.

Ear hair can be the worst! Actually, the whole poodle coat is a little overrated.
