Faith Being Obedient on YouTube

Aug 21, 2008 22:50

Obedience class on Monday consisted of a Novice run-through for everyone, and one of the members brought her camera in to tape people.  Faith's and my run is posted here.  Criticism is welcome if you care to comment!

We didn't do a spectacular job, but I still think it's cool to watch the video (but I am a dork).  Faith was a little distracted at ( Read more... )

The link doesn't work. Can you embed the video?

And I learned that some judges (1 out of the 2 we had) will actually allow a 2nd heel command during the off lead if the dog isn't with you.

Now it works (I think)! The class instructor disabled embedding when he uploaded them.

I thought you could always give a second heel command for a deduction--but only some judges do that? I haven't read the regulations.

Is the "really obvious" cue your step off from a halt into a heel? That's the only really obvious cue I noticed you giving. All I would suggest would be to work on keeping her attention on the About turns both in the heel on/off lead and in the fig8 since she lags a bit on the turns.

Other than that she's super prancy and happy which is lovely to watch. :)

Haha, yes, it is that huge first step. I have been practicing about turns where I throw a piece of food or a toy at the end to try to keep her driving forward. We don't practice the figure eight as much as we should because I hate it! Oh, well. Thanks for the advice and the compliment!

There are rarely people needing to be rescued (unless they are hyperventilating Novice A handlers) in the obedience ring, but Faith does not listen when I explain this. :( I suspect it's because she's really looking for cheese.

I have been an official marching band groupie since 12th grade!

Having been in a marching band for 8 straight years (high school + college) I will say that it most DEFINITELY helps us with heeling, haha. :)

I had never watched obedience before but that was pretty cool. Faith looked very happy doing it. :)

She generally has a good time with whatever she's doing! Sometimes she has a wicked Poodle sense of humor when it comes to obedience, I think.
