You never noticed this before? I have long laughed at the lack of asses in Gundam Wing (however, there was also very little tits objectification, hell that picture of Cathy is really the only one where they are even emphasized. So if the trade is that I lose asses along with overemphasized boobs, then dude I am totally ok. (GW does have some fanservice, but the fanservice wasn't as pronounced or annoying as it was in certain other series).

(I disagree on Cathy being the prettiest, I give that to Noin or Sally, but with Noin, I find butch women to be extremely hot. And Relena is most gorgeous in Endless Waltz and at the end of the series, where her hair has a more grown up feel to it.)

No, not the first time I noticed it, just the first time articulating it. That scene with Cathy prompted me to put a number of examples next to each other and go "alright, this isn't just me being nitpicky about the drawing style, this is a case of several vital bones being missing from all of their bodies".

I agree with the lack of fanservice being a good thing. Their outright anatomy fail, however, isn't.

(Relena is a very close second. But because of the episode where this comes from, I really must put Cathy first. A thing for androgyny is something we have in common, but Noin is trickier when it comes to drawing, because of her odd hairstyle. It really needs a good angle to not look odd.)

I have a hard time with anatomy fail, because, well there are very few series that don't have anatomy fail in some manner. As bad as GW is, I have seen worse.

They are like Barbie, in real life they would never be able to survive.

Catherine does nothing for me to be honest. I don't know. And I hate saying that, but she just doesn't hit those notes. I admit I am not a fan of the hair.

enjoyed the post. the absolute ass-less boys is one of the things that first endeared this series to me! but, yeah, it does look pretty ridiculous! at least Wing didn't always try to milk sexyness as fanservice, like most of the Gundam shows these days do...

True. Though the deformed state of GW's characters' backsides probably draws more attention to them than normal animation would have done. Reverse psychology? :P

Oh, I agree, I wouldn't want fanservice in GW. Not that I'm opposed to nudity or sexiness, but anime fanservice is usually so... tasteless. There was lots of casual, "functional" nudity in the 1.5 episodes of Turn A Gundam that I saw, which I had no problem with whatsoever. But Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny, for example, have one or two characters with big breasts which just wont stop bouncing, and Gundam 00 is horrible.

I have a theory that GW fandom's propensity to smut and mindless "OMG kawaii buttsex!!11eleventyone!1" is because everyone keeps staring in morbid fascination at those deformed butts. :P

Sally is amazing as long as you can refrain from thinking "HOW IN THE WORLD DOES HER HAIR WORK!??" ^^

^_^ Agreed. HSD is full of tasteless fanservice, but the rest of the show is worth putting up with it so I watch it anyways.

And yes she is amazing... I just wish the character designers had given that horrible hair-do to someone I don't like instead.

OMG yes!!! My sister and I've long made fun of the absolute lack of hips, butts and everything else in the nether regions! We've got the action figures and guess what - they're completey flat front and back! We can't help but giggle. Thanks for posting this, it was fun to read, and the pics were great! ^_~

I love Catherine's eyes and her hair has grown on me. But, of course, Sally takes the cake for me. I adore her hair, I don't know how she does it in the morning or keeps it that way all day long, but her hair is awesomeness.

I'm extremely glad that Gundam Wing doesn't advertise sex. Personally I lose interest in shows that do and never watch them again. But I'm still a loyal GW fan. I fall in love with personalites, not great bodies. And I spend money on shows that are great. Only GW has been so lucky :)
