i know this is a gossip community, but the coverage of this whole thing is really ridiculous. I love Russell Brand's commentary on most things. Super smart dude, it seems.
i always thought he was an idiot until those riots in London a few years ago. he wrote a blog on it, and it was just really smart, very well done and i started looking at his other stuff and was like, jfc this guy is a genius.
his standup regarding religious stuff is just amazing, if you haven't seen it; i think it was his most recent one.
His commentary is spot on in a lot of ways, and I think juxtaposed with the smarmy, smug celebrity news coverage he does seem to be right in slamming the way it's been covered.
With that said, people who are just looking at the photo for the first time without all of that haze of smarminess are still genuinely shocked because she does *look* different. Unnervingly different. And it's not because of age.
And I think he's almost disingenuously glossing over that plain fact.
I agree on one hand. On the other hand, I doubt that if she hadn't already been mocked for over a decade by the same media outlets about her looks she would've done this.
It's 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' in this case (and with most women aging) and I feel it's fine to comment on that (instead of on her looking different).
If a woman ages, she gets mocked for aging. She gets stuff fixed, then she gets made fun of for getting plastic surgery. With Renée, she didn't even have to age, her eyelids were enough.
mte. Honestly I haven't seen a lot of rude stuff about it, just shock. And yeah most of her face looks similar, and she's probably stopped drinking which would account for some, but her eyes are DIFFERENT. It almost looks like she's a relative.
I don't understand people saying they absolutely did not recognize her. The rest of her face is the same, her eyes are just more open..and her eyebrows are not filled in which is half the issue.
If she wasn't out of the spotlight for so long people wouldn't care so much, you don't see people hollering over Kim K's completely revamped face.
