I saw the cringiest clip of her struggle yelling Spanish into a cell phone. I laughed, I can't believe anyone tried to pretend this was going to be an awards buzzy performance. (I haven't seen the movie.)

Really? I haven’t seen it, but most of the negative comments I’ve seen still praise Zoe.

Is this a case of critics vs general public or have people started review-bombing the film because of Karla?

Letterboxd's userbase is, on average, more leftist than many online spaces, so it's unlikely to be latter, in my opinion.

I don't think that's too likely for Letterboxd -- IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes yes, but Letterboxd sort of attracts a different crowd, fortunately. A lot of people have critiqued how the trans storyline is handled, though, and ngl I agree

It’s a case of people either love this movie or hate it lol. I didn’t hate it but I still gave it two stars so…

I didn't mind the movie but I'm like "????" about all the award praises it's getting.
Only Zoe is a deserving contender but she'd be a ridiculous category fraud.

The spectacle of it is fun, if you're into that kind of purposefully OTT thing, but the more I think about the story the more frustrated I am. But at least people are finally admitting that Selena can't act lmao

saw the movie. was surprised it was a musical. i didn’t know!

saldaña was definitely the lead despite the title of the movie. her character was the main plot driver! so, i hope the academy corrects this category fraud.

gomez’s spanish was cringe. like they couldn’t afford her an accent coach?

and i did not know gascón was in nosotros los nobles. i’m very happy her. she was great in the movie. she should vie for supporting actress, but i don’t know how competitive that category is.

Genuine question here re accent. Is her Spanish like a non-American trying to speak English but has an accent? I don’t get why people harp on it so much because if a Mexican character spoke English with an accent in a movie I wouldn’t think much of it.
