I’ve never really had a crush on Hugh Grant, but seeing his old craggy face in that movie has done something for me. What’s wrong with me?

Don’t tell me. I’m fragile.

Not gonna lie, as a kid I loved "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" because those kids were truly terrible and it made me lol. Then I got older and realized that they were coded "poor" and it took some of the lols away, but I think that was the point that the author was trying to make; people judged that family hardcore in their neighborhood, and I'm sure that's why they were so damn bad.

I had no idea there was a new movie version of it. My initial reaction was that I saw the tv adaptation with Hot Lips Houlihan and Fairuza Balk so I don't need to see a remake. But I loved this movie as a kid and if this version brings a new generation of kids to the book, then that's not a bad thing. And hopefully with this update, they will make it clearer that people like Alice were judging them and making A LOT of assumptions because they were being classist snobs.

Haven't seen the other movie version but the book makes it pretty clear that they were being hardcore judged for being poor in that town, and the ugliness that can happen from that.

I'm excited for Heretic, I might actually go to the theater to see it!

I just watched some TV shows and that's about it. Nothing too exciting.

I saw Anora and was disappointed. They could've cut 30-45 minutes of repetitive scenes and montages and it would've been a better, tighter film. I felt the same way about The Florida Project so maybe this is just a gripe I have with Sean Baker films. I also think it suffers from the same problem as the last season of The Bear where people screaming at each other nonstop is presented as compelling and hilarious. But it's possible that I'm just old and don't get it.

Mikey Madison was great though, and I loved Toros.

YES re: the editing! That was my first takeaway after seeing the film, and I cannot believe more people have not said the same. Sean Baker edited it himself, and I really think he needs an actual editor, because you cannot tell me they needed every beat in the second half of the film. But yeah, Mikey was fabulous.

Yeah agreed. Its probably my least favorite Baker film. It doesn't really have a central compelling message imo like his other films too. But the acting is good. I don't have any desire to rewatch it either.

I feel exactly the same as you. Some scenes went on way too long and should have been trimmed down to make a tighter movie, and at some point I just wanted them to stop screaming at each other. And I was surprised I haven’t seen more love for Karren Karagulian’s performance; most of the awards talk I’ve seen has been focused on Mikey (and deservedly so) and the other two guys.

That said, as someone who didn’t like The Florida Project, I liked this one much better because I thought it perfectly captured the feeling of wanting to believe in something you know is too good to be true and the eventual let down when it doesn’t come true.

Really liked Heretic! It kind of went in a direction I wasn’t expecting at all, but I was along for the ride and it was fun.

Hugh Grant’s performance was GREAT and it made me realize that he might low-key be one of my fave actors to watch.

I'm really liking Hugh's rat bastard era, it suits him much more than his stuttering romatic lead era.
