I watched Cutter's Way (1981) this week, it's a neo-noir film about Vietnam vets caught up in a murder investigation. John Heard gives an amazing performance, and young Jeff Bridges is fine as hell.

My local cinema has the 4k restoration of Point Break out this week, so I will definitely catch that, as I've never seen it on the big screen. I also want to see Juror #2 because I really enjoy talky court room dramas, has anyone else seen it?

I saw Juror #2, and genuinely liked it. It's not very artfully shot, the script is rough at points, and it plays like a Law & Order ep at points (not a downside for me), but the cast is great and the story itself is interesting. There are definitely some improbabilities you need to swallow, but if you've ever been on a jury for a murder case, it's honestly not far off.

ah thank you! i feel like all Clint's later films aren't that interesting in terms of cinematography, but have an interesting ~message~. There's a screening of Conclave at the exact same time as Juror #2, so will see which film my mum chooses for us.

Seeing Heretic on Friday, maybe Blitz on Sat after my hike, now that it's in more than ONE theater here, and Small Things on Sun. Bird is going to an AMC (kinda) near me next weekend, so I can use A-List for that, yay. And I've had Little Girl Blue on my list for ages, but I don't see it playing anywhere near me??? why must I be mocked

Anora was EXCELLENT. Going to probably see it again. Genuinely very funny, incredible performances. Mikey Madison was amazing, as was Yura Borisov. Hope they get recognition.

I saw Emilia Perez and… idk. I wouldn’t normally care about category fraud but Zoe felt entirely the lead. I would be curious to see a breakdown of their screen time. I thought she and Karla were great. And in a weak year, I thought Selena was good and I don’t see why she shouldn’t get in.

The writing for the movie is all over the place. The pre-transition misgendering was so cringe. Karla was great and did the best she could but the character was so poorly developed. The doctor musical numbers were as cringe as people have been saying, and I thought there were only two really good musical numbers.

More under the cut for spoilers…

[Spoiler (click to open)]I’ve read the criticisms from the trans community about how trans people are portrayed and how she becomes a “new person” after transitioning. My takeaway on the ending though is that she realizes she ISNT a different person, she can’t escape her past, and she is the same selfish and violent person. However, I think we were supposed to find her sympathetic clearly and be invested in her ... )
