i ended up seeing conclave earlier this week. i was raised catholic and, although i am very very lapsed, i am always into catholic drama (tm) in fiction. [Spoiler (click to open)]i got a good laugh when the priests all thought benitez was done his dinner prayer and then he continued, so they all had to quickly straighten up like they hadn't been about to sit. been there! i enjoyed it as a 90s throwback kind of movie too, though i'm of two minds about the ending. [Spoiler (click to open)]on one hand, i totally get the criticism that intersex characters generally existing as a "gotcha!" is disappointing. on the other, i think it was handled fairly sensitively and i did like the throughline: that certainty, and by extension the rigidity of a binary, is the opposite of faith. on a less serious note, the petty workplace politics were as entertaining as everyone said ([Spoiler (click to open)]"judas!" followed directly by the already notorious vape hit got a huge laugh in my theatre lol).

Recent watches were all too long: Furiosa (cut at least four action scenes), Trap (cur chewing the scenery, Wicked Little Letters (show don't tell doesn't mean show the entire explanation).

Oh, and I didn't even finish 'Family Pack' because it's a french comedy. I have limits.

Watched Babes, Conclave, My Old Ass and Civil War today.

Civil War wasn't the best choice to watch post-election. I missed it when it had its original run and I honestly don't know what to think of this movie. It was also all over the place and lacked any depth, the characters were caricatures.

So excited to see Heretic!!! Also might go see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, since those are the only two playing near me lol.

Christmas Eve in Miller's point looks really artsy so that looks fun too.
