No, what killed was the 2000s and the arrival of ultra vapid and superficial celebrity and reality tv culture that slowly replaced the alternative music scene and the corresponding video art format. And while the reality shows like The Osbournes and The Hills helped usher in the millennium and revive the channel for a while, the new programming ultimately killed its long running legacy/brand. YouTube was the final nail in the coffin.

I agree. I think they could have kept it going had they kept the focus on the music and inviting people for live performances (whether filmed in studio or remotely). Now if you want to see someone perform live, you basically have to either pay to see them live in concert, hope they release some sort of performance video and/or concert recording themselves, or hope they show up on a talk show or make it over to Live Lounge or something. It was also a great way to discover music from artists you wouldn't necessarily seek out, which YouTube isn't necessarily great at.
