Hybe straight up admitted they wanted to throw NewJeans away. I can't think of any group or any group's fans (especially a group on the level of NewJeans) that would just take that sort of attack lying down.
The misogyny is just... I have no words. It made me feel really concerned for all the girl groups on their roster.
Their full first album was supposed to be out by now. They were supposed to have a big fan meeting this week. So the world tour would be next year. It was already planned out.
Are other groups getting hate and being caught in the crossfire? Yeah but it seems their albums are being released per usual while NJ’s plans have been derailed and actually sabotaged
Seungkwan saying “we’re not your commodities” is not only a dig at Hybe but at entitled fans as well. The friendship between the members is an important part of SVT’s marketing but the way Hybe/Pledis continues to exploit it and fuelling some fans’ delusional minds is icky. They don’t care to protect them.
Thank you for making this post, BTS and HYBE fans have been completely muddling the waters on the subject everywhere, so while I wish Seungkwan had never had to be hurt enough he felt the need to speak out, I'm glad it will allow light to be shed on what's going on. He's incredibly brave.
For those who would dismiss the contents of the documents as pannchoa gossip, you can check Asianjunkie. They've been compiling accurate translations. It's 20K pages of a document found during the Korean government's audit of HYBE. And it's all vitriol against other groups mixed with nasty commentary from their own execs and discussion of strategies to use said vitriol to benefit and manipulate public opinion of HYBE's groups.
And Today it was revealed that last year, when there were dating rumors involving Seungwan's fellow Seventeen member Joshua, HYBE decided that to distract the fans Sengkwan should return to work from the break he had been taking to grieve his best friend and fellow idol Moonbin.
I hope this opens up the floodgates on the shit Hybe pulled with BTS and ARMY as well. Hybe could run a masterclass on cultivating parasocial relationships between fans and artists and nowhere have they succeeded more than in getting people to not only stan BTS but also the company behind BTS. They were so good at it that they even managed to turn some ARMYs against Jungkook after he went against Hybe and publicly supported NewJeans, which is just insane when you think about it. Never have I seen such insane levels of company standom as with Hybe.
The idea of bringing Seungkwan back from grieving the loss of his best friend just because of a dating scandal... there has to be something deeply, deeply rotten in the hearts of these Hybe assholes for them to even consider that. I truly hope Hybe goes under ASAP.
Edit: thank you for the alternative source as well! I just went with what was easiest, so I appreciate the help and information.
I've been around since ~2011, so while I admit that I could certainly be wrong (especially since I never participated in fandoms and online fan spaces), I think two things can be true: that kpop companies (especially big ones, like SM, JYP, YG, etc.) have always had stans but also that Hybe took things to a new level.
hybe is the weirdest company. I know all companies do market research and probably analyze their competitors and what they’re doing but they seem to really obsess over what other companies and idol groups are doing and it’s weird.

Seventeen have been around for so long let them live their damn lives.
Also the whole Hybe documents reek of so much misogyny is actually vile.
