They just don’t want to pay these women what they are worth.

This. They want to cycle in new, younger women who can’t point to ratings of past movies so they can pay the new actresses as little as possible.

I feel like that’s Hallmark’s target demographic though? As a single 30something woman I would much rather watch someone my age or older find love than a teenager/college age person.

It's why I've aged out of most YA fiction. There's no shortage of young women finding love in media. Some of us need that vicarious living of "It's not too late"

I feel like as of late many YA authors also aged out of YA and moved to adult romantasy. But generally they're only writing teen reading level books with 20 year old characters getting railed every other chapter because YA had a severe sales downturn as of late. Probably because they can now get the same reading level except with fucking and sucking.

Yes! Well said. As a young woman I had horrible luck / made horrible choices and IF I'm in the mood for romantic cheese, it better be as good as Austen's "Persuasion" in terms of finding second chances!!

(I know the protagonist in that book is young; she's considered "too old for marriage" in the book's setting. Fun fact: I was introduced to this book via Wei Wuxian / Lan Wangji fanfic lmao)

Now hypothetically, who would they get to replace them? Or rather, who they WANT to get?

This exec was dumb as hell thinking she could make comments like that and assume that a casting director of a certain can't find younger people of that is desired - they are kinda fucked unless they have some other real reason to fire that poor lady. (Although no job could keep me working at 79 lol).

I do think Hallmark needs think about their talent pool for sure - none of the perky blondes they have been churning through have really hit and a few of the guys are looking tired.
