I feel like that’s Hallmark’s target demographic though? As a single 30something woman I would much rather watch someone my age or older find love than a teenager/college age person.

It's why I've aged out of most YA fiction. There's no shortage of young women finding love in media. Some of us need that vicarious living of "It's not too late"

I feel like as of late many YA authors also aged out of YA and moved to adult romantasy. But generally they're only writing teen reading level books with 20 year old characters getting railed every other chapter because YA had a severe sales downturn as of late. Probably because they can now get the same reading level except with fucking and sucking.

Yes! Well said. As a young woman I had horrible luck / made horrible choices and IF I'm in the mood for romantic cheese, it better be as good as Austen's "Persuasion" in terms of finding second chances!!

(I know the protagonist in that book is young; she's considered "too old for marriage" in the book's setting. Fun fact: I was introduced to this book via Wei Wuxian / Lan Wangji fanfic lmao)

Tbf, "young" in Jane Austen's day is different to ours. And one thing I'll defend Hallmark on is it's almost never painted as the woman's fault for her being 30/40/50 and single

I feel like this is why Gilmore Girls has such staying power lol. As you get older you ignore the Rory storylines more and more and focus on Lorelai.
