VP Harris on 60 Minutes, Trump Flakes

Oct 09, 2024 03:08

For more than half a century, the major party candidates for president have sat down with 60 Minutes. This year, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump accepted our invitation. Unfortunately, last week Trump canceled.

“I’m a cop” is such a weird/tone deaf way to make an argument.

It's a testament to how little the protests over rampant police violence in 2020 mattered that her proudly calling herself a cop isn't immediately disqualifying. That it was somehow a more effective weapon against her campaign in 2019 than in 2024 is actually a perfect example of the rightward turn Dems have made.

She didn't say she was a cop. Harris: "My background is in law enforcement". Law enforcement in the broader sense includes the courts. She was inspired to get a law degree in order to become prosecutor because her high school friend was sexually molested.

I watched the Colbert interview last night and listened to some of the Call Her Daddy podcast until my ass got tired of the chick constantly addressing me as "Daddy Gang." I am not the audience for that podcast but I'm glad she did it.

also aiiie ontd, I am in Fort Myers and not ready to deal with a week without power after another fucking hurricane. My House representative is that incredibly gagworthy Byron Donalds, who i wrote this poem about:

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Byron Donalds voted against FEMA funding
So fuck him too

Oh that dude is such a fucking ass. They don’t like you, you dumb fuck; you’re just window dressing to them.

Donalds' self-loathing is sad but he should stop making it America's problem!

My House rep (I'm in Louisiana) is a dumb-as-dirt former cop and car salesman. He's going to have that job until he's carried out in a body bag, if he wants it.

On the war in the Middle East: "The work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles. We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end. I think, with all due respect, the better question is do we have an important alliance between the American people and the Israeli people. And the answer to that question is yes.

I laugh so I don't cry.

AND WHAT ABOUT PALESTINE?!?

I’m not in the us, but wow what a fucked up answer and I get the frustration with her/democrats regarding Gaza.

The principles being that non-Israeli lives don't matter to Americans, and you'll even see American policy advisors calling for the death of Irish and Polish peacekeepers in South Lebanon:

Hey @AmericanIrishSL, how do you feel about a policy advisor on foreign affairs to a congressional candidate, advocating for the carpet bombing of Irish peacekeepers & for the mass rape of the Irish population? Asking for the people of Ireland who are sick of genocidal behaviour. https://t.co/8SZYM9nwvY pic.twitter.com/b4Hsl0rxZN

No matter what happens, Republicans are the winners because they've pushed the Democrats so far right. I can't get over being to the right of REAGAN on Palestine.

It's become a choice between a right-wing party vs a far-right wing party. I feel so sorry for progressives and left leaning liberals. And anyone with a conscience really.

I just don't understand why so many political parties, in every corner of the globe, are fighting over this small group of centre right voters. Why not just move to the left and scoop up the boatload of voters that you've spent years alienating rather than a bunch of 'undecideds' who probably won't vote for you anyway.

in the case of the US, probably because a recent poll indicated 47% of voters thought harris was too liberal or progressive, while only 9% thought she wasn’t liberal or progressive enough: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/presidential-polls-trump-moderate.html

(and a bunch of that 9% - already a small figure - is likely to be concentrated in already very blue states like california and new york, so winning them over wouldn’t do anything electorally)

i find this election as depressing as anyone else, but the idea that the american public is full of people desperate for a leftward turn that politicians are refusing to give them is wishful thinking

I’ll be voting early in person for Kamala! I’m not in a swing state anymore but still get to vote for some really historic down ballot candidates that I’m excited about!!

Good for you. It was just announced that in 80 days, VP Harris has raised a billion dollars for her campaign. I believe that's more than double what Trump has raised. Ignore polls, the fundraising shows what kind of support she has.
