VP Harris on 60 Minutes, Trump Flakes

Oct 09, 2024 03:08

For more than half a century, the major party candidates for president have sat down with 60 Minutes. This year, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump accepted our invitation. Unfortunately, last week Trump canceled.

On the war in the Middle East: "The work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles. We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end. I think, with all due respect, the better question is do we have an important alliance between the American people and the Israeli people. And the answer to that question is yes.

I laugh so I don't cry.

AND WHAT ABOUT PALESTINE?!?

I’m not in the us, but wow what a fucked up answer and I get the frustration with her/democrats regarding Gaza.

The principles being that non-Israeli lives don't matter to Americans, and you'll even see American policy advisors calling for the death of Irish and Polish peacekeepers in South Lebanon:

Hey @AmericanIrishSL, how do you feel about a policy advisor on foreign affairs to a congressional candidate, advocating for the carpet bombing of Irish peacekeepers & for the mass rape of the Irish population? Asking for the people of Ireland who are sick of genocidal behaviour. https://t.co/8SZYM9nwvY pic.twitter.com/b4Hsl0rxZN

Joining the US in this fuckery:

Germany bans a pro-Palestine protest camp because it was to have been visited by Greta Thunberg, deemed to be "gewaltbereit", literally "ready to be violent". Every day the German state sinks deeper into the mire. https://t.co/9LaEHVCr1z

Austria and Germany have been so widely disappointing throughout this whole thing. They will be so Pro-Israel to the point of supporting a genocide in fear if they don't support Israel people will think they are Nazis. It's not even govt it's their citizens too. I tried to have constructive conversations about Gaza with my German speaking friends and it's like they have all the wall up in their head and just have to agree with Israel.

It's insane, it's like they think blanket support of Israel somehow negates their historic (and ongoing) antisemitism.

To wit:

Only possible in Germany:
at a pro-Zionist demonstration praising #apartheidIsrael + claiming to protest "anti-Semitism"
Berlin police arrest a anti-Zionist Berlin/Israeli-Jew, Udi Raz, for "insulting" the police as Anti-Semites, when they attacked him! #Fascism https://t.co/TvD778brCg pic.twitter.com/rREcEBnHPZ

I know I'm a very outside looking in perspective of Germany, but it's so wild to me that they have parties like AfD and more extreme that are just rebranded nazis that have legitimate anti-Semitic views woven into party policy, but then still go full hard on support of Israel. like whaaaa???

Exactly, a Germany that *actually* reckoned with its antisemitism would not allow a party like the AfD to exist at all.

It would be helpful to point out this is the Republican candidate for Congress. Party does matter.
