Drake Hogestyn, who portrayed John Black on the soap opera Days Of Our Lives, has passed away at 70 due to pancreatic cancer, one day before his 71st birthday.

Aww, i remember my babysitter used to "rest her eyes" while she watched Days (and we sat in front of the tv watching with her) and I remember i was SO IN LOVE with him as a little gay boy, he was so handsome. This is sad.

Oh no! I’m genuinely sad to hear this. I’ve watched Days since the late 80s so I’ve always been entertained by John Black and everything he and Marlena got up to. Recently he took a break and came back looking a little frail so I was worried he wasn’t well but I just chalked it up to aging. May he RIP.

Any South African millennial worth their salt knows that Doc and John are end game. While I understand how global TV distribution works, I can't help but be struck by how profound it is that our childhoods, despite being continents apart, have this weird + joyful connective tissue.

Same my mom watched CBS soaps, but she subscribed to a weekly soap opera magazine so I knew all about John Black.

That is so sad. Guiding Light was always my soap. Never really watched DOOL, but I definitely knew that he is a soap legend. Even if you didn’t watch the show, everyone knew of John and Marlena.

Yess! Kim Zimmer also recently shared she has cancer :( I hope she beats it.

My all time fav GL storyline was the Reva/Josh and “crazy” Annie triangle. The actress who played Annie (Cynthia Watros) was phenomenal and gave Reva hell lmao. Watching Cynthia and Kim in scenes together was truly a treat and a master class in soap acting!
