Drake Hogestyn, who portrayed John Black on the soap opera Days Of Our Lives, has passed away at 70 due to pancreatic cancer, one day before his 71st birthday.

I think I started watching this show back in grade school, and John and Marlena have been one of my favourite soap couples ever since. I dip in and out of the show regularly but they're still cute as hell together now.

The show films so far in advance that I don't even think Doug's death has happened on it yet, so John will likely still be around for at least another six months.

Yeah, they have yet to air Doug's memorial episodes and now they'll have to revise plans to do another for John. What a sad few years it's been for soap operas.

Ugh, this is very sad news. John and "Doc" were THE power couple on DAYS. (Though I haven't watched in years...are they even together right now? Or is Marlena a demon again or something?) I hope they give him a proper sendoff.

Funny enough, Marlena was possessed by the devil again about 2 years ago! She’s good now though, and they are still together. :’)

I was shocked to hear about this. He played a character who came back to life idk how many times, so he almost seemed immortal by proxy. I never really liked John Black but Drake was an iconic soap actor, most definitely. I'm so sorry that he had pancreatic cancer, which is terribly cruel

John Black and Doc were such a great soap couple that I was super disappointed when the real Roman returned. I used to love staying home sick from school so I could catch up on Days of Our Lives. I can still hear the very distinct way that Stefano said "John Black." I loved that Passions went totally over the top with their storylines but nothing will ever beat Marlena's glowing green demon eyes.

When Friends began airing, I could not get over the fact that Victor Kiriakis was Rachel's bio dad.

RIP to Drake. I hope he didn't suffer and that he was surrounded by his family at the end.

This whole comment!! Ugh, I want to be a kid again. Stefano was prob my first fictional hatred. He was the worst (but the actor was so good!) and same thoughts re: Victor!
