I'm Forky-level trash that will be seeing Megalopolis this weekend.

I might have to give Devara Pt. 1 a shot, I really enjoyed N.T. Rama Rao Jr. in RRR. On the other hand, that would be the second "Part 1" Telegu movie that I'd be invested in with no word of when the second part is happening (currently chomping at the bit for Salaar Pt. 2)

i finished blink twice about half an hour ago and am still digesting that one. overall i think i'd be interested to see zoe kravitz direct something else, but not based off her own script this time. the writing/pacing were the weakest part for me, though the performances were solid and it was visually interesting.

also watched his three daughters, which i dug (predictably lol). i am a sucker for any stories about sisters, so it was an easy sell for me. had HUGE "based on a play" vibes even though it wasn't, as far as i know, so your mileage may vary based on how much you enjoy that style.

rez ball is on my list. i also got tickets to see anora at my local film fest on sunday! very interested to see that one. it feels like one of two (along with emilia pérez) contenders this year that's had strong momentum for months now without really stumbling.

I fucking loved His Three Daughters, one of my faves this year!

I agree about Anora and Emilia Pérez both being very strong so far - curious to see what the general reception for each film is and how that'll influence predictions.

As much as I enjoy Saif Ali, I dislike when South Indian films (usually Telugu and Tamil) hire North Indian actors, as they're always dubbed over since they rarely speak any of the Dravidian regional languages. It just takes me out as a viewer, to have one or two characters obviously dubbed, while the rest match their spoken dialogue.

That said, I have been waiting for an Indian pirate story like Devara, so I may have to overcome my aversion.

After taking my mom to see Paddington a couple weeks ago at a $3 showing(!) I had to make sure we saw the sequel as well, which thankfully was at that same theatre the very next week. She liked both but preferred the first one. She's a crier so she was teary at the end of it and was like "geez I really cry over everything" and I was like "no one can blame you here, this damn bear has no right making all of us this emotional" lol. Even as we were leaving I could hear someone say "I'm 19 and crying over a fictional bear right at the movies" lol so he really gets to us all.

Also took her to see Whiplash on Friday, which she had also never seen. I hadn't watched it in I guess ten years, and holy, I really forgot how stressful that movie is. Still great, but whew it's just a lot.

On Monday we saw Parenthood which is one she had seen, but Cineplex does VIP one nighters, so we went. Also, I had somehow never watched it in its entirety before, so it's always nice to see something new, even if it's old, and I liked it. I completely forgot ( ... )
