Reboots and revivals aren't new but there's just so many of them now I think people are just fatigued. The problem is that we have too many places to watch TV so studios are getting lazy with creating original content. They know they can entice people to tune into a reboot of a show they're familiar with even if they hate watch.

With a few expectations, I don't think these new characters aren't resonating with audiences in the same way. There was a time when writers weren't afraid to write problematic characters. Also, I think some of these reboots are coming too soon. Shows that ended not too long ago are being remade again! At least with a show like Dynasty, you can get away with it since the original aired a while ago.

Edited because I wanted to point the reason why Degrassi: The Next Generation worked was because at its core, the show is really about the school and the teenagers in it. You can make a show like that over and over again and it'll still feel fresh. Some of shows don't have plots that are that general.

Re: Degrassi, I think the reason it worked generation after generation was because it never strayed too far from its core concept/tone. I watched all of TNG and Next Class, then went back and watched DJH and DH and was baffled. I said out loud “Oh my god, it’s the same show…” even way back in the 80’s lol.

The iCarly would’ve been much better if they left out the few overly silly plots. Like bringing back Lewbert, and Spencer’s sperm donation kids.
The Gossip Girl reboot was boring and aimless.
Girl Meets World was very offensive, and spoke down to its audience, like kids and preteens are all idiots.

I've only watched the Gilmore Girls revival and hated it. Like I didn't like Season 7 either but that's mostly because I don't like Logan and I get that Amy wants to act like Season 7 doesn't exist but the revival was just so bad and I wouldn't even want to know how it would be going on because Jess is too good for Rory now and it's weird without Richard (though he wasn't that great of a character).

I wish we got the Lizzie McGuire reboot, it would've been so fun if it was done right.

I feel from a creative standpoint it is SO EASY to write a revival that people would be mildly happy with, or at least something that the audience wouldn't want to rip to pieces. It doesn't have to be that good, but it would be the equivalent of writing literal fluff for fanfic. So why do all the reboots suck?!

And I feel like all the show runners have literally lost the plot and don't understand the premise of their shows. For example, Gilmore Girls is ultimately about Rory having a "better life" than Lorelai by going to Yale and being a journalist so that Lorelai's sacrifices would've been worth it, so why does the revival end with her being jobless and pregnant? Sex and the City is supposed to be about successful career women in NYC so why do none of them have a proper job in the reboot? Gossip Girl is supposed to be aspirational old money NYC teens but the reboot is about influencers and who is gossip girl??
