She didn't need Dr. Luke, she needed Bonnie McKee but of course her dumbass would prioritize a man. And she didn't even have a good answer in her PR Call Her Daddy interview. Why not say she understands the concerns but he was never technically found guilty of anything, he still works with other artists, she and him have a strong collaborative relationship, blah blah blah. Tbh nothing would have been a good answer but she had a chance to try and change narrative.
Because she made her choice to work with him though that choice became the story of her album. And the album isn't good enough to disregard her working with him. She hitched her cart to the wrong man. And now her album is "challenging" for a Top 10 debut and people are saying Paris Hilton sold more in her first week.
At least she sold her catalog before this could devalue it so poor little rich girl
That is another one of her problems, not knowing what is the cause of making something good or bad. She thinks it's Luke's production that made the hits, no it's Bonnie's lyrics and melodies. She needs help honing her concepts, she clearly just can't do it on her own but her ego won't let her see that. She's surrounded herself with all the wrong people and put her head in the sand when given even the slightest bit of constructive criticism. But like you say. She was at least smart enough to sell her catalogue when it was still WAY overvalued.
Where's the meme/gif where "You expect me to feel sorry for her, I don't"? 'Cause that's where I'm at.
I think part of it - being serious - is not only partnering with Dr. Puke (misspelling completely intentional), but also the dated sound, she's not really in sync with making something that sounds memorable. She also keeps making terrible choices for singles and imagery in her MVs/promo stuff. (She did this with Witness too, so it doesn't surprise me.)
I retweeted the LA Times review, and X sent me a notice that said: "We flagged this post as sensitive content. We put a warning message on these posts because they might have sensitive content - like nudity, sexual content, violence, gore, or hateful symbols."
The Times review was all text, it had no photo, and all it said was that the songs were bad.
Wtf? I've never seen a notice like that, and it doesn't make any sense for the tweet.
That’s wild because the flight attendant on the jump-seat next to me was scrolling through X and all I saw was legit porn and had to turn my face towards the aircraft door 😭
the production of this album was a weird choice. are any dr.luke hits charting atm?? why wouldn't she poach the people working with the pop artists who are currently on top? what was the point of the loyalty to this man?
she's very out of touch. she had a lot of success with dr luke years ago so that's prob why she went back to him but you're right, if she was smart she would've worked with some current popular producers
His last big hit was "Super Freaky Girl" in 2022. It was a big hit for him and Nicki Minaj, and Katy Perry started working on her album in the summer of 2023. That was around the time the song hit 3X Platinum in the US so she was probably hoping the same success would happen to her.
She's failing in a similar way Mustin Timberflop is. Gets called out? Refuses to apologize or pivot, and then leans in HARDER to the very shit few people like. This album is pretty horrendous in a way that only someone completely detached from the world could pull off. This level of flop requires a bunch of yes people, enough money that nobody's opinion actually matters outside of those yes people, a total and complete lack of interest in improving in any way, and being willing to make a record with no point or purpose. The album is remarkably pedestrian in every way, from promo, to the videos, to the production, to lyrics, to mixing, mastering, arrangements.... I mean everything. There's not one thing on this done to a professional level. Dr. Luke is a disgusting piece of shit but he used to be able to at least make a damn song, what the fuck happened? The production is not only dated, it sound unfinished most of the time, there are almost no melodies that aren't actively annoying, and when those do exist, they are either stolen (
