the more I think about it, the more I think Katy Perry’s period of dominance boiled down to sheer dumb luck.
she worked with precisely the right songwriters and precisely the right producers at precisely the right time. her main contribution was providing the Sexy but Silly™️ aesthetic.
but for this album all she’s got is herself, some anonymous songwriters, and a rapist who ran out of ideas 10+ years ago. of course its garbage. and she has only herself to blame 😊

I always thought she was a one-hit wonder who got lucky cause "I Kissed A Girl" wasn't exactly the greatest debut single to start off with.
I think it helps that the 2010s especially early 10s was filled more filler artists and unserious vibes which she fitted in with. But that can only last for so long.
Teenage Dreams has a good tracks but I also remember thinking she's too old for this type of vibe.
Katy's biggest flaw to me was taking way too long to evolve and grow as an artist.

Yeah my read on all this has been that Katy either doesn't realize or can't bring herself to admit that she's too old for the album she's trying to do (in addition to the other problems).
Tbh I think "won't admit" - she gives the vibe of someone terrified of aging.

You hit the nail on the head. Her call;ey party girl persona has played out and she rode that wave way too long. Then it ruined songs like 365 which was the best and probably the only song I can stand to listen to.
She definitely got lucky and I knew she had no lasting power. I wish she understood that.

Frankly, it's what she deserves for running back to Dr. Luke for a quick hit (that thankfully didn't materialize).
