She didn't need Dr. Luke, she needed Bonnie McKee but of course her dumbass would prioritize a man. And she didn't even have a good answer in her PR Call Her Daddy interview. Why not say she understands the concerns but he was never technically found guilty of anything, he still works with other artists, she and him have a strong collaborative relationship, blah blah blah. Tbh nothing would have been a good answer but she had a chance to try and change narrative.
Because she made her choice to work with him though that choice became the story of her album. And the album isn't good enough to disregard her working with him. She hitched her cart to the wrong man. And now her album is "challenging" for a Top 10 debut and people are saying Paris Hilton sold more in her first week.
At least she sold her catalog before this could devalue it so poor little rich girl
That is another one of her problems, not knowing what is the cause of making something good or bad. She thinks it's Luke's production that made the hits, no it's Bonnie's lyrics and melodies. She needs help honing her concepts, she clearly just can't do it on her own but her ego won't let her see that. She's surrounded herself with all the wrong people and put her head in the sand when given even the slightest bit of constructive criticism. But like you say. She was at least smart enough to sell her catalogue when it was still WAY overvalued.
I think Bonnie has explained it pretty well, even her Wikipedia article mentions her first time being dropped as a result of abusing crystal meth and defacing her CEO's car.
And then with Epic, I think American Girl was probably one of the worst lead single choices, especially now that we've heard all of Hot City.
