NEON wanted to buy 'Hit Man' but was outbid by Netflix

Neon CEO Tom Quinn naming Hit Man as one that got away is such a bummer. A ton of people saw it on Netflix, certainly, but it absolutely would have been more talked about and engaged with (and, yes, made some money at the box office!) if it had been a theatrical release first. https://t.co/8xM23IVAgx pic.twitter.com/ySxxuukuhc

It was ok, felt a little half-assed. I would have been bored watching it in a theatre.

Omg yay a post about this stupid ass movie lol I just watched it yesterday and was left confused about all of the high praise definitely has to be the Richard Linklater name brand recognition. Glen doesn’t annoy me like he does a lot do the internet actually think he’s pretty charming on screen and he was definitely the only thing holding the movie together. Sadly I thought Adria Arjona was terrible as the lead actress her constant sexy pouting was ridiculous. Didn’t help that the character was poorly written as well, and what the hell was the ending! I guess we’ll never know but I kinda of doubt it would have made 40 million kind of money.

While it probably would not have been an award contender, I think it's hard to argue that it wouldn't have done decently in theaters, especially considering Anything But You's box office. I did actually see it in a theater - Netflix owns one in LA that exhibited it for a couple of weeks - and while I didn't love it, a lot of other folks did.

I'm actually happy when Netflix snaps up things that would have been a hard sell in theaters, especially when they give them a huge ad push, but I don't think this was one of them.

But isn’t Neon the one always botching their marketing and rollout for the good films they do acquire?

They've had hits and misses. For example, they were very successful with Parasite, both financially and in terms of awards success, in part because of their aggressive campaign and rollout. But then they dropped the ball completely with Origin.
