DCIS is the type my mom had. She underwent a lumpectomy + six weeks of radiation and has been in remission for three years. Obviously any type of cancer is horrible, but her oncologist said it's the "best" type of breast cancer to get in terms of survival rate.

The thing I found the most interesting is how concerned they were about my mom's alcohol consumption in the past. She saw two oncologists, a radiologist, a surgeon, multiple nurses and physician's assistants...and every single one of them grilled her on her alcohol usage repeatedly. She's never had a drinking problem but it was made clear to me that the medical community is paying more attention to the link between alcohol/inflammation and various cancers.

At my last mammogram/scan, my doctor cautioned me against cow's milk: apparently, the hormones given to cows seem to have an adverse effect on women. I don't know the science behind it but I thought it was interesting.

“The evidence regarding milk consumption and cancers is mixed, with some studies finding it protective against colorectal cancer. In several studies, dairy intake increased prostate cancer risk in men and ovarian cancer in women. Researchers have also connected dairy consumption with increased breast cancer risk, though further studies to confirm this remain necessary.”

I’ve heard about the milk link too, but I’m not sure what to think about it.

Isn’t soy meant to be linked to breast cancer too? I wonder which alternative milk is the healthiest?

I gasped but I am SO glad they caught it early. Hope doctors remove it quickly and effectively and it never comes back!

This is crazy to read because I found out in early July that I have the exact same thing. Stage 0, caught early through mammogram, then ultrasound, then biopsy, then MRI. It's early but it's a kind that can grow quickly, and I had a mastectomy to remove it last week.

It's all been so fast, and the mastectomy day (Wednesday) was the longest, scariest day of my life. I still cry like 4 times a day. But I'm beyond grateful to have caught it so early since it gave me lots of options for the mastectomy that I wouldn't have if it progressed at all, or involved the skin, etc.

It just sucks a lot, right now. I have no history of cancer on either side so I honestly thought I was bulletproof.

I'm so sorry you've had to go through that, but very glad it was Stage 0 when it was found! I wish you the best in your recovery.
