I’m happy that he ended up having a true statement. I think what got me the most was that if what was reported was true MANY people were acting like drunk driving was not a big deal. I think the visceral response to immediately absolve him of anything was what helped make this worse on the international side at least in my opinion.

Thanks, OP! I was going to make a post after work if no one beat me to it. I am still very unimpressed with all the handwaving and minimizing going on over at r/kpop. No one should be operating any kind of vehicle, not even an electric scooter, while intoxicated. He should have either walked the 500m or called for a ride rather than risk striking a pedestrian or accidentally veering into traffic.

How did JTBC get this so wrong? That's what I really want to know. You're telling me no one verified the footage? This is like ABC News (based on what I've seen) getting something wrong. It's not CNN (where you can safely expect everything to be true), but it's also not FOX News (where you can safely expect everything to be false).

Tbh, JTBC has a historical beef with BTS. They broke into BigHit's offices back in the day to try to get some evidence about BTS's contract renewals or something? Idr. So they might have been blinded by that and not done due diligence before reporting the footage as fact.

It’s wild that jtbc didn't verify this properly given how libel laws work in South Korea and hybe’s general attitude towards using those laws.

I’m very glad he wasn’t as much of a danger to himself and others as originally thought, but If I see another stan going ‘well haters were obviously being just hatersss’ I will scream lmao. It was reported by a respected news source, of course people believed it over a celebrity who has proven himself to be messy in the past. Genuinely some of you need to go outside.

And he still operated the motorized scooter drunk and that still is thought of seriously in South Korea. So the takes of 'this isn't a big deal' are not really accurate.

Yes, I totally agree.

Agreed, I think the fan reaction to this update is acting like it fully absolves him or that it still isn't a big deal, when all it really does is show he didn't lie after the fact. He still did it, and it was still dangerous and wrong.

He should get a driver or walk if it’s short distances if he ever want to get drunk again . DUI is notorious in k celebs.
