i feel like you have to do more than fall (which can happen to anyone) for a cop to want a breathalyzer, but maybe thats just how strict they are in south korea, idk. this part though "my failure to recognize that using an electric scooter while intoxicated was prohibited" sir you should not be driving any vehicle if you've been drinking. also not a great look since one of the bts side shows is a drinking show he hosts

he and hybe are full of shit and they know it:

-he was already in an accident involving one of these vehicles, he knows its a motor vehicle and dangerous (as in, he had a motorbike license)

-he AND hybe lied about what kind of vehicle it was (not an electric standing scooter, which also counts as a motor vehicle in korea, but an electric scooter like we're more familiar with in the west)

-he didn't "fall", the secret service who were patrolling for the president found him passed out on the ground.

-he lied and said he only had 1 beer (him and justin timberlake collab when)

-he was caught on CCTV

maybe im just cynical but i feel like he has to have done this before, and it likely wont be the last time since lbr fines mean nothing to millionaires

Thank you! People are getting impression that the cop saw him fall and went to help. No! The cop was patrolling the area and walked up on a dude on still on the ground next to the fallen scooter. Who knows how long he was there?!

This is very serious. And he lied at first. He made it seem like it was a push scooter, but no, it was an electric scooter with a seat like moped almost. It was an electrical vehicle. And he wasn't parking it. The dude was wasted. The cop found him still on the ground. Also, where he was found isn't even his primary residence, so we can't be sure he's being honest about that either.

This is very serious, and I hate that people are downplaying it. You should be treating this just like he was driving a car. He could've really hurt himself, others, or caused an accident. This is not ok, and him continuing to lie is not ok.

It should also be known that in SK.you need a license to rent or buy one of these electric scooters. So it is treated just like you are driving a car while drunk. And in the States you can be charged with a DUI doing the same thing.

Damn, I didn’t know that. I don’t follow k pop so I thought his apology was appropriate, I didn’t realize there was a bigger backstory.

Exactly. His apology was weak and pathetic. And the way the fans are excusing this is disappointing but unsurprising.

All of these K-Pop apologies sound so insincere and stilted. I don’t know if something’s getting lost in the translation or if they’re all AI generated.

I think this one sounds insincere, because it goes out of the way to point out that nobody was hurt, which gives it a vibe of "I apologize because I have to, but it's not a big deal, after all nothing happened, right?".

I mean I would assume they're written in a very formal register in Korean, so it might come across as stilted in English

As a fan, I am disappointed and disgusted by his actions. I'll never look at him the same. There is no excuse for driving drunk, even on a scooter.

and celebs like him have access to tons of people that work for them. get your assistant or manager or whoever to call you a car. if i can get an uber then certainly he can find a ride

Not only that, but there are replacement driver services available in Seoul, people who will literally drive your car home for you, with you in it, after you've been drinking. As gig work, it sounds absolutely awful, but it also means that, had he driven something other than a one-seater scooter, he wouldn't have had to rely on his manager or a taxi or ride sharing service to get home if push came to shove and he really didn't want to leave his vehicle behind. But instead he not only drove somewhere to drink but chose to take a scooter knowing that he would have to then leave behind at the bar to get home safely (which he chose not to do).

Mayo should take notes.

He’s lucky no one was hurt, and I hope he never does it again.

Is someone actually named Mayo??

I'm being serious, I really don't know. I only know the name of one (well, now two) members of BTS.
